Two BXs for sale, plus lots of spares.

Post by jrdpod »

I have the following for sale:
1x BX Meteor 1991 J reg (8/91). Car complete, but big end failed. Good interior, but needs some cosmetic work on bodywork; ie some dents in all door panels; tailgate not original. The car has done approx 142K; (136K on original engine; 6K on current failed one). New radiator, new clutch.
Suspension ok, apart from small leak from accumulator, and front spheres could do with replacing. Electrical repairs required to instrument panel. 3 keepers since new. Meteor grey in colour. SORNED since 1/09.
Stored outside, but on hardstanding. To be moved to dry store shortly.
1x BX 17RD 1987 D reg (2/87). Car complete, but MOT failure. Requires welding on rear sub frame, and engine is very tired. Bodywork tatty inside and out, new driver's door needed - spare available; mileage 267K on original engine. New clutch. Suspension works, but front spheres need replacing. Electrical repairs needed to centre console. 8 keepers since new. Iris blue in colour. SORNED since 3/07. Dry stored.
Both these cars are suitable for spares or repair.
Spares available:
1x 1.6 petrol engine - big ends knock - 136K.
1x 1.7 diesel engine with auto box - told it runs ok - 110K.
Assortment of lights, grey seats, grey interior trims, other accessories etc.
I would like to sell as one "job lot".
Offers IRO £500.
The BX Meteor is located at Little Wigborough, near Colchester, Essex.
The BX diesel is located in Colchester, Essex.
Buyer will have to collect.
Please PM me for further details.

2 BXs for sale

Post by jrdpod »

Hi Ken,
Unfortunately, yes.
Both the BXs I have weren't in brilliant condition when I first acquired them, and they basically became bigger and bigger "moneypits".
I don't have the time and resources to do full restorations on either, hence my decision to sell.
I know that BXs are "high maintenance" and need to be kept in tip top condition, but I feel there are certain things against the BX now being a "practical everyday car", especially for someone like me who covers quite a lot of miles.
I've also found that getting some BX parts can now be difficult, and the general rarity of BXs on UK roads in 2009 probably reinforces that.
I now have a 1994 Pegeout 106 as my everyday car, and it is performing fine. This car was in good condition when I bought it, and I'm keeping it that way.
I'm retaining my 1982 Ford Escort MKIII, as that was my first car, and that will hopefully eventually get restored.
I want my two BXs to go to a good home; ie someone who will find a use for them, either for spares or repair.

Regards
John Podgorski/jrdpod.

TBH I think the asking price of £500 means you will have them on your drive for a long time. Neither vehicle is roadworthy, and an un-roadworthy BX is worth barely any more than £50 these days (essentially scrap value)

Even at £100 for the lot, I suspect you'll still have issues shifting them.

Sorry to hear that it has come to this, but that's (car) life.

I have to say, DR's right IMHO. I should just ask for offers and see where it takes you. Even then the most economical solution might be to break them yourself - radiator, seats, any new-ish/VGC parts plus the good engine and 'box - and get the rest taken away. Selling the parts might net you a few quid more than hoping for someone to go to the trouble and expense of shifting it all as a 'job lot'. Sad but true.

Thanks for the input chaps; and for being realistic.

I'll change the "asking price" to "offers invited".

Thanks and Regards

If you do decide to break up for parts I'd like to reserve the front wing near side from your meteor grey car and the front bumper, plus fittings.

In the past: 2CV, Dyane 4, GSA
Be faithful to your BX and she'll be faithful back
