Britain's best 4x4 (allegedly) back on the road

Post by Brian King »

Thanks to Tony Weston and sons of Cambridge nr Dursley, Gloucs, my otherwise immaculate ex Ian Fearn BX GTi 4x4 is back on the road with a replacement gearbox and transfer box from a donor 4x4. The next job is to try and find a way to improve the splined joint using my old boxes as a testbed. The late style engine (no distributor), 4 Seats and 3 doorcards from the donor are on For Sale and Wanted. I'd attach a pic of the car but I haven't the faintest idea how to do it.

Upload your picture to a hosting site, then link the picture to the forum like this:

It should then appear on the forum. If not send it to me and I can do it.

Thank you Ian. You mean 'And here's one that Tony and Andrew Weston did earlier'
All I did was pay. Sometimes I look at modern Alfas and say to myself 'What am I doing maintaining 3 BXs for the nation? I'm certainly not doing it for my own gain or to look cool' Yes, on second thoughts I'll accept a Blue Peter badge.
On third thoughts my 1.6 TZD is a fantastic workhorse and towing vehicle, with unexpected and amazing accelleration and a gratifying 45mpg; the 16v is thirsty but with an engine as smooth as silk and real fun to drive; the 4x4 is, apart from the rare transmission, reasonably sprightly and without doubt the most comfortable car I have ever owned (its road-levelling qualities may be due to the extra weight low down); and all three have sunroofs, a feature you don't automatically get on modern cars, even Alfas. Just press a few buttons and you've practically got a convertible.
