Hi Paul,

Welcome to the club, depends on what car you buy really, TZD turbos are the same insurance group as quite alot of bx's, avoid Gti's and 16vs for obvious reasons and shop around on the comparison sites, tesco.com and direct line, due to your lack of no claims it wont be cheap but as the BX isnt a high risk car and its value is low you may do ok.

Good Luck.

But be very aware before any buying decision that BXs are a car that needs very regular maintenance and careful appraisal before buying.

Though they're in many ways straightforward compared to more recent cars, they are NOT just a simple retro-ride that anyone can fix.

You need to be prepared to put the hours in on the mechanical basics, and be inventive when it comes to sourcing spare parts nowadays, as many parts suppliers have destocked in the last couple of years - Citroen no longer have any legal obligation to supply BX spares.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Having a local friendly Citroen specialist is ideal but as DLM says these cars are all best part of 15/20 years old now so expect the unexpected, try and go for one with a proven service history ideally by someone who knows what they are doing!

Your in the best place for advice etc!

I'm 18 and I've been driving for about 11 months, I've had my policy for about 10 months.

It's hard to tell how much my insurance is, as I've changed cars several times so they've ripped me off with their "admin charges" (what, I'm paying someone to press a button?) - I've tried getting quotes, and it costs me *roughly* £1,300-£1,400 to insure my TZD Turbo.

That's a lot, probably more than anyone is paying for their BX on this forum - including valver owners!

Lucky for you, you're over 21 so you might save a bit there.

It comes down to whether you're prepared to spend a-hell-of-a-lot on insurance for a car that's worth a fraction of that price.

good greif! I've never paid more than £500 for a year's insurance in my life! including when I was 18. My first BX was a BX14E and it was insured for about £500 TPFT. Tho admittedly it was nearly 12 years ago. I only pay about £180 fully comp for the CX on Classic insurance (the BX would be eligible for it too) but of course you need to be over 25 often for classic.

On Elephant, the BX was insured fully comp for about £250 ish last year. I'm sure if you shop around you could get that below £1000.

You should phone Kwik Fit and ask them how much it'll be to swap your policy over to a BX - I don't see why they wouldn't do this for you.

It will probably cost between £100-£150 (your Clio should easily be worth this) and doing it this way, you won't have to take out a new policy, so you'll get your no claims in October ... hopefully!

Keep a look out on here, and on eBay motors.

www.carandclassic.co.uk is worth a look too, there have been some nice cars on there before 8)

Paul,

Don't worry about an estate being too big, they're only about 9 inches longer than the hatchback, and are real load luggers. I've had several BXs, both estates and hatchbacks and I really prefer the estates. They have that bit more headroom in the rear, which my sons always say is a real bonus, plus you can get a lot of gear in the back behind you. Best of all the handling is, if anything, a little taughter than the hatchback.

Given that I am apparently already the forum's resident evil, I can't help but point out the policy of no text talk. You'll notice that 99% of other posts have grammar, punctuation and spelling. There's no character limit here.

Your posts are drifting disturbingly close to my micky-taking avatar of text-type rubbish that is posted in so many corners of the internet.

There's no one specific place that you will buy a good BX, you just have to keep your eyes open. Some eBay ones are good, and some are awful. Anything sold here on the club has the potential to be a great car, but make sure you still check any prospective purchase over carefully, and take someone who does know what they're looking for with you if you don't.

..that_

Not a fan (at all) of* the text talk either, I'm afraid.

What's wrong with English (with all the grammar, punctuation and spelling etc.) - we all make errors, now and then, in typing - but if post's worth making it's worth making so it is at least understandable without having to decipher it.

* corrected. See we all make mistakes. :D
