Tyre width for Mot ?

Hello everyone
sorry that I rarely visit the site, but I am very busy with babysitting.
I will have my Mot next month. Last year I changed 2 of my tyres to the original width 165. (I plan to do the same with the other pair when they are due)
The 2 tyres at the back are still 175 s.
The people at the Tyre place told me this would not be completely legal. Are they right ? I always assumed that I only need to have the same tyres per axle.

Your either legal or not no in between! Sounds like the Tyre shop is trying to scare you into getting the tyres before you know for certain if it will fail a MOT or not.

I wonder also if the same tyre shop will advise you the tracking needs adjusting and you need to take a warrenty out on the tyres?

Few years ago a Exhaust shop told me I would need a new exhaust system in 6 months and it would fail a WOF (MOT in NZ) well 5 years I still have it fitted and it passes the stricter standards of today.

Lets put it another way! If your car fails because of the Tyre size then you still got Free retests correct?

As long as the sizes match on either side of the car, you're fine. The axles can mis-match.

thank you, after reading through all that information on the other link. I will just keep it as it is. They clearly say per axle.

both tyres on one axle must be of the same size and ratting, but front axle and rear do not have to match,

i always steer well clear and tell my customers to of tyre/exhaust companys when it comes to anything to do with the MOT
