Recently the car has not been starting on first try, with the starter motor clicking rather than turning. I have taken this as okay for a while as it has always started on the second try pretty quickly but today I was taking a couple friends to a swimming pool and upon leaving the starter would not turn the second time, or the third, or fourth, and I was starting to think I would be stuck there until on the 7th try it span into life instead of the frustrating >click<. The next few times I started the car it has been okay, starting on second turn again but these symptoms are familiar to me as this is what my 306 did when the starter motor was dying, and eventually with a slight battery drain it would not start at all.
I don't know if this thread should be in the "wanted" section, because I'm looking for a new starter, but I also want to confirm that this is the problem.

I had this once on a toyota cressida in New Zealand, and also on my BX when I still had my old ignition barrel. I'm pretty sure that it's because of the barrel, with the key not properly making contact for the engine to start. Although I'm by no means an expert.
Have your tried jiggling the ignition key a little when it doesn't want to start, especially in the "upwards" direction?
