Is this the ONE for Rangebyte ?

Quote from THIS thread :-
rangebyte wrote:Hi all!

I have fallen in love with the Citroen BX! I was just about to buy a 14 when someone snapped it up. Its such a nice car, and cheap on insurance as well! (i'm only 18).

What i'm looking for is a tidy 14 with a decent history for under £1k. Im not fussed about spec levels, even the most basic would make me happy

Any help is much appreciated!

Chris :D :P
Chris Have you got fixed up with your FIRST ^^bx> yet ? This could be the one !
It took me a good 3 year's to find the right one (a DTR TURBO) and that was a good 17 years ago  :!:
Please give an update on your BX search ?
Thank's

Oh the irony - I've been looking for such a car for a *few* months now. Everyday I have religiously searched all of the usual places on t'internet and then on Saturday disillusionment finally won-over and I didn't bother...

There's definitely a lesson in there!

Anyway, phoned this one up this morning (oops 7.30am) and left a message but I have a feeling I'll be very luck if it isn't sold. My only consolation would be that it's red and not a diesel.

I have found a garage with *several* low mileage diesels but for fighting money again. I'll have to put on my haggling-hat.

So... No hydraulics and no LHM leaks.

The guy said that the hydraulics failed suddenly and that afterwards there was no ticking - it could be the drive belt to the pump, or the pump itself? Now, how hard is changing the pump?

I'd be grateful for any advice here?

Thanks

IF you know what your doing it's very easy (If you don't, you may find it hard !) it's just a case of loosing the pump tension to remove the drive belt then disconnect the LHM feed-pipe and HP pipe and then unbolting the pump.
Then it's just a reverse of the removal operation but you will have to prime the pump and purge the air from the hydraulic system at the regulator valve afterward's !
But just remembering to take ALL the usual safety precautions when working on a Citroen with hydraulics so you don't injure or kill yourself !

Also take a look at 'Aerodynamica' AKA Graeme posting's of 'Cyril's progress' where he changed the HP pump with some pictures and priming technique's it's on page 5 of this THREAD also take a look thro' this LINK.

Or just follow how it's explained in the 'Hayne's' maunal (Book #908 on page 206 in mine) !

BTW Jame's have you got a BX Hayne's manual yet ? If you remember I quoted this:-
RxBX wrote:Hi, Tourist,
Without being rude to you I do think you need to do a bit more reading/research on some of the Technical matters before making posts !

I know some people slag off the Haynes Manual and even more so now with the 'Spanner rating' of how difficult a task might be !

But it's a good place to start for a new BX owner
in this THREAD !

If you have not got a copy go for a used/older copy without the stupid spanner rating symbol's also the paper it's printed on is of better quality !

I hope this is of help to you !

Thanks very much for the reply!

I'm blaming the heat for not wanting to find the long-lost manual.

Good luck with the car Tourist.

Careful with the tank-to-pump hose: I had one split on a BX last year at the junction with the pump.

If your "new" pump is in fact a secondhand one, and still has the this hose fitted, check over the hose very carefully first, and fit them together "as is" if good.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Tourist, if you're considering it..
I took a healthy pump off a car which i'm going to fit to mine hopefully with the long thick black feed pipe still attached - looked in good condition. Pretty easy to get out, but work carefully and slowly and yes triple check car is supported properly. The metal hydraulic pipe union that takes pressurisied LHM into the system is a bit fiddly, but slowly does it and its fine.

Don't the feed pipes split because of flat accumulator spheres? Due to shock loading through the pipework.

I spent a day trying to persuade a number of mechanics to fix the car and not one was even vaguely interested. I was tempted to have a go myself but I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to do much more than guess what needs fixing. Could it just be the accumulator sphere (and potentially knock-on damage)?

It does look to be a nice example - but I fear that the breakers yard is looming for this car, or worse still the crusher.

If anyone would be willing and able to help me fix the car I'd pay for their services. Assuming the car hasn't gone and the seller doesn't mind a bit of LHM on their gravel. Anyone interested?

Pump change sounds like it's above my ability to be honest, especially in 30 degree heat. I may give it a go over the weekend as it's getting a bit cooler.

Thanks for the posting of links I've noted them.
