Oil Change with a Leak Found on the Hydraulics

Post by kiwi »

Today chaged the Oil figured that even though its not been more than 7k kms since the last change its been 13 months so overdue.

Easy job no worries other than the lack of access to the Oil filter with Aircon and all the extra bits of wire and pipe in the way

Anyways whilst under there noticed a damp area around the nearside strut which easily worked out as being the world famous Strut Return Pipes. I can tell you that the Hydracagine (sp?) makes the mess look and feel a bit easier to clean up. I dont know how long it had been leaking probably caught the thing today as theres been no signs of damp floor.

My local ^^ ^^ parts man has moved on and the new guy has clearly said he hates these cars (yes great sales technique  ) not very helpful or knowledgable insisting on the chassis number before finding the part I needed.

You would think finding a "Strut Return Hose" which is the same on all ^^bx> would be easy? Erm No he did find one in a draw which turns out is now called a "Flood Return Valve hose" :? :?

Trouble is no clips available so I reused my old one! Not the easiest job and not 100% happy with it.

Question is what alternatives have you guys used successfully when the clip is not available?

if you have access to stainless steel ligarex strapping (CV boot strapping),

this use to and still can be used in conjunction with the square part/plate of the clip together strap/clamp type you have on your car,

just out of interest what did the new leg pipe cost down under,

as GSF over here sell them i belive they work out at around 10 to 12 UK pounds including the clip,

i do also have some in stock

Thanks you given me an idea to use a Large Hose Clip with the square backing plate from the original. Yea crazy but I have a feeling I can source one of those sized clips from a Truck or Farm Tractor easily

The cost was $35 which works out as that 12 Pounds price. (God I miss my UK keyboard to put that pounds sign  )

Hi Kiwi,

If you can obtain some silicone tubing or similar, then it's an easy repair.

This is how I repair them, and to date have had no failures.

Good luck

You may have it if you enable your on-screen keyboard and refer to one of the extra character sets.

....or possibly even edit the properties in the "Regional & Language" section of Control Panel, in your Windoze setup?

I like that brilliant idea for future referance. The stell banding was my main concern (and a pig of a job to clip together).

Oh and way2go and mountainman uk the keyboard is the least of my worries  thanks anyways.

Brian, is that silicone tubing the same stuff that you use on fishtank set-up to supply the air to oxygenate the water?

Hi Mulley,

Yes if it is silicone, I did obtain it at a large pet shop that had a good selection of tubing, but the new stock is marked up as silicone tubing, but in fact it is not. I purchased some, it does work for a while "About a year" then it prgressively hardens.

I will bring a sample of each, so you can see the difference.

Cheers
