Alloys and locking wheelnuts

Post by Philip Chidlow »

Hi

What happens if you have a set of alloys with a locking wheel nut and you need to remove the wheels. And the adapter/key is nowhere to be found..?

There MUST be a way to get the bolts out. Any suggestions? Specialists?

(Not my car, but a relative's).

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.
Luckliy, I had kept a note of the Key "code" (in my case it was E7T6), as recommended by the manufacturers

Mine was from a firm called Grayston, so I simply contacted the Head Office, quoted my Key Code, and was supplied with a perfect replacement within 2 days....for £15.

If you don't know the maker, or code, then it is possible (although destructive!) to buy special sockets that will hammer onto the locknut and allow removal using a normal wrench/bar. Obviously the nuts would then need to be replaced, on all four wheels!

Most decent tyre specialists will possess these sockets, but you would need to have replacement bolts to hand, for refitting the wheel!!

Hope this helps, although I suspect the make etc. will probably be different to mine!!
(I can supply contact details for Grayston, if necessary!)

Thanks Dave. Don't think we know what make. So destructive it is then.

Bolts need buying first...
