BX ebay price hyseria..

Post by Aerodynamica »

While conducting the weekly check for BX bits on the evilbay, I came across this low miles but low spec. and imperfect Mk2 BX complete with shite photos.

Anyone keen to buy?

Nice example and rare to see one with the accessoirie Gt style spoiler, but its still a fairly basic 16 petrol so probably about £5-600 worth maybe.

I've started to see more & more bx's in magazines & papers etc...i think slowly but surely its seen as a credible classic & they are pretty rare these days.

I know the website lists over 30k+ on the site, but that was quite few years ago, wouldnt be surprised if that was about half that figure now.

Most can be only described as in working condition so i reckon if thats as good mecanically as it looks, with that low mileage as genuine, why not, a grand for a nice car isnt a lot in the scheme of things.

I think that club members tend to downgrade prices a bit on what we perceive as our own personal desirability of specific models, to others that car might even seem a bargain.

I must admit personally, i'm not into 1600's, but i'd stretch to £850 if it was as in excellent bodily & mechanical condition. The same car with 100k on it with average paint, usual scars on the bumper & car park dents, i'd probably never buy & would only ever pay £250 max if i got desperate.

Discuss

I suppose it all depends on your personal preference in rocking-horse guano.... though some of what's being sold looks more like plain rocking-horse to me, and may get used if bought at the current prices about as much as an empty-nester's rocking-horse.

blah blah blah... intelligent and thorough maintenance ......regular preventative maintenance..... fluid changes.....pipework.... octopus....rear arms...hydraulic components.. the usual hydraulic Citroen litany.

I'd prefer to source a BX from an owner who's had the nous to do much of their own repairs and servicing - to the best of their ability, whatever that may be. And preferably someone who's honest about it. But those cars aren't the ones being premium-priced at the moment.

While a low-mileage car with a small number of owners and a regular service history always attracts a certain premium, it certainly isn't always the best buy. Quite a few of these BX have Citroen dealership service histories. Even early in the life of the cars, dealer standards varied widely. Some independents have done a better job, but it's been no money-spinner for them.

Bare evidence of a history to a Citroen schedule - which missed out some important maintenance points from the start - is sometimes not as important as what has been done, when, and how often - and, most important of all, what needs doing now and in the future (often impossible to tell without seeing the car).

A kunifer-piped BX with a decent bodyshell, tyres, with evidence of regular and intelligent care to keep the car beyond the point of steady deterioration, sold with a stock of spares to cover a forward-looking maintenance program should attract a premium - but does it, and how many are out there? It might quite possibly have had several owners. Will it continue to get the same treatment?

Time to get back to my own rocking-horse (probably my last BX). Now if I can just get hold of that information on kunifer-piping a rocking horse, the pipe flarer....
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Well David, after 21 years of BX ownership our last BX has just pulled off the drive, heading south down the M1 for Guildford.
