Rust, rust and more rust

shes gone on both sills, doth rear door shuts, rear chassis leg, rear chassis around the fuel tank, front of sill into drivers wheel arch, hole in bulkhead through to wheel arch, front chassis leg, and inner wing passenger side. And i bet theres more i havent found. Will cost too much to fix it all as its rear sub frame and tank out to do welding plus the suspension pipes have to come down. Im after another one ( solid underneath i hope ) so i can transfer as many bits over from mine then the rest will be stripped, engine and gearbox sold and shell scrapped, and plate transfered to new 16v

We have to be realistic in these times. Sorry to hear it's so bad. Try to recover as much as you can, Are you going to break it?

ive just been looking at the doc's resto thread and mine appears to have a hole in exactly the same places as the docs had ( wondering if they are twins ).

Im going to try and get another 16v but ive got a feeling its going to be hard to get a decent one as most of them are pretty much in the same state now due to age. If i can find one ill be swapping a fair ammount of parts over from mine as most are new plus i have an immaculate dash and interior in mine. If i cant find a 16v ill have to move on maybe thinking of a xsara vts phase 2?.

I will most likely be breaking the car at a later date depending on wether a 16v replacement is found first or not. and will put a post up as and when i start dismatling it.

That is great shame Rob. :(

Weren't you one of the Bxers into a regular waxoyl regime too? If so all that effort and expense makes it even more aggravating.

All BX's go there mate, valver or not.
Infact, pretty much any BX you'll find will have rot in all the same places.
Nearly always hidden by the factory underseal, but I've yet to find a "rot free" BX, they just do not exist.

Your's is fixable, anythings fixable really...
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

doc, you are so correct. All the rot was hidden by the factory underseal hence why i hadnt seen it  .

Im not after another 16v now as i have put a rescue plan in place to repair my own over the next 12 months. :D

Dont realy want to break it up

If you do end up breaking Rob, I'd pay good money for various body panels....wings, bonnet, bumpers etc.

Good luck with fixing it up though

:D Good news,

its not being broken up. Its currently stored in the garage at the mo. Ive treated all the rust areas to slow it down while i get things sorted. Trying to find a welder at the mo but proving hard also ive got a guy from a bodyshop coming out to have a look at the rear door shuts and inner wing to quote me. Ive already started buying parts for the underside as the rear subframes got to come out so im rebuilding it with new suspension spheres, cylinders, powercoating rear beam, arms, other bits etc etc. It should be better than new when ive finished.
