Citroen BX Mad

Post by djm666 »

Hi there i am new here, have had many Bx's. so yes i am very ill.lol. I moved from the UK 2years ago to NZ and thought i would never see another BX. but i now have one and got my girlfriend into one.lol. so here we go again.lol.
am finding that there are more turning up in town all the time.
mine is a 17 TZD Turbo that has only done 340,000. doing 50,000 last year as i use it every day. and gives no trouble. as there is no salt on the roads you dont get the pipes go.
I plan to set up my whole family with them my brother now wants out of a subaru to get a 16v.lol. we will soon be overrun with them. just like we were in the UK.lol.
And onward. keep those BX's goin!!

Mad Citroen BX fiend

Post by djm666 »

Well i used to haunt the streets of Bury St Edmunds in a ratty old turbo diesel BX. and attended the ccc national rallys selling parts and stuff. till i moved to NZ. were now i do pretty much the same.
Now in Nelson on the north of the south island were i am starting my own business as a european car technician.

I bought my first BX in NZ the same old way i always used to.lol. It was in a garden out in the country under a tree. with a leaking water pump. i bought it for $500 and picked it up on a trailer.
got all the parts together for it and did the work. have been driving it every since and it now is my everyday car. doing 60 to 70,000 a year.

I did the Mongol Rally in june in a shite vauxhall corsa 10,000miles of back breaking driving. you dont realise how good the citroen is till i got back and started right were i left off.lol. and now i want to do it in my BX round the world.lol. think i might attend the ICCCR when it is in the UK as i have been to others. but i think i will ship my car over there so i can say i have the only kiwi BX there.??? will have to post some pictures. will get them on soon. the only difference is a sticker under the bonnet that Citroen New Zealand put there to say its safe.lol. thats about it. oh and most of them out here have air con. mine does not but my girlfriends 1.9 petrol auto does. bliss.lol.

Still many more BXadventures to be had.lol.

so where you lot from??

Most cars in New Zealand have Aircon and are Automatics in case you have not discovered that yet?

I think though you will find that the Aircon is fitted to the BX19 TZS/TZI models as standard in NZ. Thats what I have seen so far!
Another thing you might noticed is the 1905cc model is the most common model in NZ with a few 1600cc around. The BX14 I have only seen one and that was a UK import.

Myself got a 19TZS with aircon and a 19TRS with sealed sunroof  both manual gearboxes. Lets put it this way the 19TRS was originally destined as a parts donor except so far it has proved more reliable in fuel consumption and performance. Drinks some oil but with coming up to 300k I should expect that.

Welcome. We're not a bad bunch generally on here! Need a thick skin sometimes, but the knowledge and advice (not to mention enthusiasm) here makes it worthwhile.

i have now bought a whole interior out of a 16v in the uk and will be shipping it back here as i cant seem to find one to scrap out here yet. i bought my girlfriends car for spares and found it to be rather good. so will be sorting it out when the warrent expires, as i would love the rear wing off it.lol. yeah they love there autos out here.
i personally love the manuals.

i dont think i have had a year since i was 13 that i have not had a BX. i am now 21 ill i think.lol.

You looked on Trademe? There has been a few 16Vs going for parts. Your likely to find an interior around the wellington area being close to you (ok swim for it  ). Cheaper than shipping from the UK :? Does it have to be a 16V interior? The interior on my 19TZS is from another TZS but similer to the 16V style just in blue.

I am in the the North Island and have been a BX owner for over 20 years so yep I think I qualify as a BX Fanatic as well  still things happen with them that surprise me.

Post by djm666 »

yeah i keep missing them on trademe though.lol. will have to spend more time on there so i dont miss them.lol. i still have my BX 4x4 estate in a shed in the uk that i spent tons of money on so i hope to bring it out here wen i get enuf money together. in the next year. so i think i will buy a container and get a whole shipmant over.
at thew end of the day i just love the cars and it is my hobby so i will do all sorts to keep my hobby going.lol.
so all the seats will just be put in the container and shipped. will prob fly back to the uk and stay with mates and fill the container.lol.
if you hear of any bx 16valves going for sale i would not mind another one one day. send us an email djdownunder2007@hotmail.com.
i travel all over to pick them up.lol. but that bit of water between the islands is crazy money to cross.lol. but hey till they build a bridge. is what ya have to do.

Sell it in the UK.

It will not pass the Frontal Impact standards that was introduced in New Zealand several years ago. Yes it is ironic how many BXs on the road here but they came in before the new standards were set. I know I wanted to import my BX16auto when I cam out here.
the only thing here is you cant get LHM Flush that you could in the UK
You mean Hydrcaringe or Hydraflush as we like to call it? Yes you can get it here there is a supplier in Timaru who lurks around the forums. If not just contact the Texaco Oil rep for your area thats how I know it is avalable in NZ.

That bridge wont happen mate slight issue with Earthquakes and a tectonic plate will see to that idea not floating

Bx on the brain

Post by djm666 »

yeah spos i should but even if it does not comply. i can then use all the parts to make my tzd a 4x4. i have all the parts and have rebuilt transfer and gearbox's along with 2 cars one good and one in bits as it crewed the splines.
will have to look into the frontal impact laws its only because they dont want older cars out on the roads any more. and that is how they get away with getting them off the roads by not letting them in.lol. i brought my CX in and it was fine. not one mention of the frontal impact.
found a donor BX thats had a facial. looks like it got good bits still in it.its a 16rs so not to speced up. has the blue interior. what is it with blue interior out here.lol. and brown the ugliest interior in the world.lol. had a gold mark1 in the uk with brown interior, nice.lol. had the lay down 1.4 as well.lol.
yeah will look into the laws if not i will get a NZ new BX and make it 4x4. maybe a nice GTi. or 16v. will be a laugh.lol.
