Xantia 1.9TD Head Wanted
I don't suppose anyone has a known good 1.9TD head knocking about that they want to get rid of? Bit of a long shot I know...
I've cracked the one on my Xantia engine, and don't really fancy the idea of chancing a scrapyard head, it's a few hours work to take it off and then find it fails a pressure test. Here's hoping!

How far is it to get the one from Shropshire? If you're going to have the replacement tested before you put it on, it may be easier to take a punt on the one with the rusty cam sprocket on the agreement that if you can get your money back if it is porous/cracked/warped.
Is it def the head as opposed to the h/g? Have to taken it off already?

Deffo the head - I took it off but could see no sign of a blown HG. So I took it to my 'local' engine place (about 40 miles away!) and they've pressure tested it.
The thing that's putting me off the rusty one is that he's supposed to send me pictures of the gasket face and under the cam cover, but he's not replying to my emails. Not the best start...plus it's about a 200 mile round trip.

The breakers I went to on Monday (see the 19RD needs rescueing post in BX Spotting) had 3 406 1.9TDs and a 405 1.8 TD all complete with cylinder heads.

I went to a breakers in 2002 in Edinborough to get the innards from a Xantia, they also had TD heads. But at least you know that i saw them in a place you cant get to.
You've had my suggestions Mat, i'm not posting them again. If there is one down here i could potentially send it up to liverpool if thats any closer (hell if your really lucky i could get it relayed from there to Llangollen or Tryweren?)

I might have found a decent one at a good price, will find out more tomorrow.
I'm not actually sure what is meant by that, as I could get to Edinborough if I wanted to and there was something there I wanted to get.Vanny wrote:I went to a breakers in 2002 in Edinborough to get the innards from a Xantia, they also had TD heads. Hi Mat,Vanny wrote:It was a pass on Rovermans completely useless post about how he knew a breakers with heads, but didn't bother to give any details, rendering the post almost as useless as mine!
How many heads would you like ? Excluding the one that's connected to your neck (BTW I hope that's feeling better now, what with all the booze and the split forehead of recent times) !
Seriously though the local breakers currently have three Xantia's in and roughly 4 or 5 Pug's (mainly 306's / 405's) with 1.9 TD lumps in.
This was when I had a look for a MAP sensor for Roverman this Monday just gone so hopefully a good choice but as most have been de-polluted now obviously you can not check/hear them run and do a water works check !So you may need to remove a few before you think you found a good one !
Like I did for a 1.7 TD for a BX once !
I do have a complete 1.9TD engine/gearbox from a ZX (From an accident damaged car which had only done 73K IIRC and ran okay prior to the accident) but I want to keep all that complete !
Send me a PM if you want the details etc. of the Breakers yard Mat

Vanny if you care to read the post again, you will se it mentions a previous post, which when read give the contact details of said breakers in Birmingham, but for ease:Vanny wrote:It was a pass on Rovermans completely useless post about how he knew a breakers with heads, but didn't bother to give any details, rendering the post almost as useless as mine!

They have a couple of 406 1.9TDs in, the engines looked to be complete.
