Anyone seriously thought about a V6 BX?

Post by Ian_Fearn »

This is a totally stupid post on the basis the inlaws are round and i'm trying to keep out the way but...

Has anybody had dreams of a PSA V6 24v powered BX? Would it even fit?

Would you need to graft in the clocks due to OBD stuff??

I had a Xantia with this engine which was a truely stunning piece of kit (auto-adaptive gearbox aside).

I expect someone has done it at some time.

But the BX is such a lightweight bendy construction, the big engine would show all the imperfections of the rest of the car.

If you want a fast BX, I would stick with the 1.9 16V. Thats 50hp less than the v6, and already more than adequate for the rest of the vehicle.

It might be clever now, but it won't be in the morning!

There is one - well, in the process of being made still, in Holland with a Xantia V6

i have read of a few v6 bx's about all of which were in europe . i think the biggest pain is the exhast manifold on the bulkhead or something i have looked into it and there is a company which makes exhaust manifolds for the v6 that goes into the 306 so could be used in the bx possibly. if a v6 xantia manual ever come up i would be wedging it in my bx lol

The wiring would be my biggest headache. Needs the likes of Vanny to investigate!

Is it really that complicated? What gearbox would you have? Its only the tacho that would be broadcast over CAN if anything, equally i'm sure a mechnical cable could be put in. Rev counter is only pulse sensing (even on the BX) so could easily be tricked if the sensor isn't right. Failing that i would be surprised if the Xantia loom is a single LIN system.

I did look into the electronics side of things a few years back when looking at a manual RHD V6 Xantia (harder than you might imagine as Cit never made one), at the time i had all the workshop electrical schematics to look at and couldn't really see any problems, but it was a while ago.

At the end of the day you could always go stand alone ECM.

But why bother? I mean its a good technical challenge, so up my street, but i would rather save 50kg and wham a turbo on the Mi16. Or better still, stick a second valver engine in the back of the BX! I just can't see much benefit for a BX making the front even heavier.

For that very reason my friend!!

I was doing some casual internet based research and found this conversion is quite common in 205's and 306's so figured it'd be a must in the BX. To be absolutely honest my original thought was to put one in my Talbot Express as the TD engine is a pain.

Regarding why do it over a Mi16 turbo.... well one of those would be ace for track use but when it comes to lazy silky 200bhp then the PSA V6 24v is pretty hard to beat.

Would something like the Emerald3D system be suitable for this?

PS, gearbox from a manual 406 V6 (dont know the code).

I think this is the same box as the Xantia Activa.

ML5. The only box PSA make that wouldn't blow it's guts eveyrwhere with 200bhp going through it probably.

Oooh, this idea does excite me greatly. The reason? Nowt to do with performance really. I mean, a Sierra Cosworth is the fastest of the breed but it's the XR4x4 that floats my boat. A four pot just can't compete with the howl of a V6.
