Mmmmmmm.....!!
What is it about Meteors and broken speedos/revcounters??
This is the 3rd I've seen on ebay with a broken speedo! And mine had first speedo and then rev counter go during previous ownership, hence mileage not guaranteed, cos I think the binnacle was replaced - so he said.
God... why am I tempted to do the buy it now...??? LOL

The benefits are you can run this till T&T run out which hopefully will get you through till the spring, then you can get all the bits off for yours, unless you get attatched to this one.
Seems like an ideal choice to suit your problems, I'd do the buy it now and then go test drive it to make sure that engine's OK.

Ken, I'm wondering what he means by "Needs work to wishbone joints" - what do you think that could be?
Also I'm hoping that the speedo fault is just the upper cable, so with a bit of luck I can swap over the one from my other one!
Quite excited now to find out what I've got for my 100 squid...
Also, talking about Meteors and broken speedos, this is also the 5th or 6th Meteor I've seen with non-Citroen wheelcovers (including my one in the garage)!
But I've got some mint GTi ones to fit on it

Yeah, I noticed that too!!
There was another BX Meteor on ebay last week in Faversham, 150 quid, no reserve... zero bids, didn't sell. If you're looking for a local Citroen to replace the Saab, maybe worth an email to see whether he still has the car? His spelling is atrocious tho - but his feedback is very good, can't argue with that.

Well, they always ride better than the diesel ones, they're usually cheaper, they nearly always have less miles and so are in better condition, they seem t obe better maintained than their diesel counterparts, erm will that do?
It's beyond me too really at £4 odd/gallon.

Update
I thought I'd let people know how I've been getting on with this car, so here is a modified extract from a PM I sent to Ken.
So far the BX has performed faultlessly, apart from a little drama cold-starting on Monday morning - I stalled it and it wouldn't restart until I tried flooring the throttle pedal while turning the starter over. I need to look at the HT leads etc, and adding a warm air tube will help! Once it's warm the engine's quite smooth, if a bit tappety compared to how I remember the other Meteor was - probably due for an adjustment. The suspension is also very smooth: far more supple over bumps than my other one... the rear spheres are really good. Front is a bit stiff, but I'm not sure whether that's spheres or the creaky struts. I was surprised to find a mismatched set: one of the spheres is a smaller one like in the earlier BX14s! (Back in 2001 the garage charged £50 each for spheres!!) But you wouldn't know - it rides very well. When I get a moment I'm going to try that little trick for lubricating the struts, i.e. sucking up LHM through the strut return hoses, and see if that frees them up. I think it is just the rubber seals gripping the slides. All the electrics work as they should, but the sunroof is a bit stiff and needs lubricating.
I'm very pleased to report that the car came with FULL service history. The maintenance book is fully stamped with Citroen dealer stamps - all six corrosion warranty checks are stamped, and all services up to 36,000 miles, then the 48,000 mile service was done by a local ordinary garage, who then continued to service the car for the owners: I have 11 invoices detailing work carried out between 2000 and April 2005 which was the date of the last MOT - and during that time it has had a new clutch kit (2001), new front and rear discs and pads, a fuel pump, etc. etc. all documented. I also have a copy of the original bill of sale from the supplying dealer and all MOT certs since 2001.
In 1997 when the car had done 39,000 miles, it had a very expensive service at the local main dealer. Maybe the cambelt went or something because all this was replaced: cambelt, cyl head gasket, rocker gasket, manifold gasket, valve stem seals, all inlet and exhaust valves, dizzy seal, camshaft seal, cylinder plug seal, fuel pump gasket... the bill was over £1000!!!
The mileage is now showing as around 68,000 - but the speedo hasn't worked since April, so I'm guessing it's actually more like 71,000 now. I haven't had a chance to check whether the rad fan is working properly, but the rad is full of coolant and everything seems okay so far. I'm going to get a new fan switch and thermostat just to be sure. I've swapped over the nearly new rad cap from the other Meteor, and also a coolant level dipstick that I found at a Citroen rally earlier this year. Piece de resistance will be a pair of headlamp protectors I bought at the same rally, currently being worn by my other car, just for show. Not had time to swap these over yet!
So, all in all, a very well looked after car and a bit of a bargain for £100!
