BX Van Triton Green 5th Oct

Post by maxgreenwood »

just a road spot but.. well got to be rare.

Now BXs are super rare over here in Ireland but on Monday Oct 5th on Newtownpark Avenue in Blackrock about 1pm in my ahem XM what should roll past the other way but a BX VAN in Triton green. '93 reg, from Co. Meath (MH) I think it was, didn't get engine but prob a diesel. An older gentleman driving. Pretty good condition. i couldn't believe it. Never seen one before. The van version looks cool. No pics i'm afraid.

I have heard that BX vans sold well in Ireland back in the day.

Another noteworthy spot was a near mint TZD turbo silver saloon '92 spotted when popping outside for a cigarette outside the 'Schooner' pub nr. Roney Point in Wexford a few months ago while away for a weekend. Now this pub is in the middle of NOWHERE. And to see such a nice one was amazing. I started crawling around underneath checking it out! Ok i'd had a couple of Guiness by then. Anyway started making enquiries and met the owner inside, enthusing about the BX. He bought it off a guy in Scotland. About 100k on it, i told him i'd have it if he wants to pass it on, but he's racking up the miles in it. Anyway got a lift back in it from the pub and was riding very sweetly down those dark lanes. I will I admit tho, i was too incapacitated to make an impartial judgement, we had by that point shared a few pints of BX love. :)

Well, from all information available (and there isn't much), all RHD vans were built to 19TD spec. So they are all naturally aspirated 1.9 Diesels and I have not seen any evidence to the contrary!

They even had their own brochure which I've seen on the net but I'd love to get hold of one of them to go with my van!
