Can anyone point me in the right direction for Bx panels ?

Buy or sell parts etc. Please put 'Wanted' in the title if it is a request for parts.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for Bx panels ?

Post by Richieg »

Hi Guys,
I need some advice please
Does anyone know where i would be able to go to buy Citroen bx panels?
I need the panel that goes up from the sill behind the door that the rear wing joins on
Its very hard to describe the part,i don't know if its called a c pillar or inner rear door shut area???
It doesn't come with the rear wing as the rear wing joins that panel by the flange

here is the only picture i can find that shows a picture of the panel i need, anyone know what its technically called or a part number plus supplier??
thanks in advance for any help

Cheers
Richie :D

I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that if that panel is still available, Citroen is likely to be the only possible supplier, unless you are lucky enough to find a source to a NOS item. Further, the part is likely to comprise the complete C pillar or possibly a section of inner wing and be very expensive if still available.

I would suggest fabrication is the way forward here, any half decent metal worker would be able to cut out the rust and make a repair panel and so achieve an invisible repair, although the degree to which the rust has spread under the flange of the outer wing (still available) will be hard to assess until it is in bits, and a top job may entail replacement of the outer wing too.

Can you weld yourself?

/\ what he said.
You cannot buy that panel complete anymore, or the repair panel Citroën used to sell.

You *might* strike it lucky by giving John Greaves a call.
He's got loads of stuff for BX, although I understand due to ill health he's selling everything and retiring.

That said, he may well still have a new repair panel in stock, and he's always been incredibly helpful whenever I've needed anything.

His number is: 0113 258 5791.

hmmm, I was thinking I'd seen a panel somewhere.....BUT it's not what you need Not quite anyway.

The retailer of the above part in the link is known as AEP in non cyber space.
They be here
They by no means list all their stock on their website so try and give 'em a call.

Otherwise follow the advice of Mr Tall Bloke J. Dyane and the good Doctor above me. Only other thing I can think off is to find a donor shell and cut the section out you need!

At the risk of being contentious, it was a job like this that made me get my first Mig Welder. Have you thought of borrowing one and having a go?

If you can't find a tame panelbeater (£££££ ) with surprisingly little practice (on scrap sheet metal, natch' ) and a bit of care you could re-fabricate that curved panel in-situ from 22SWG mild cut into 1" strips, AND gain a useful skill to boot.

Once you've got the hang of Mig Welding (a) You get pints bought for you by people who haven't (b) The rust-bug ceases to be a nightmare and becomes a mere annoyance (c) You get a lot of brownie points from your other half for saving loadsamoney/repairing metal stuff/making gates, etc.

Trust me! <quaff - quaff - slurp!>

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your comments and tips, very handy!! :D

I did call my local Citroen dealership (Tates) and they told me the panel i need is no longer available which i thought would be the case as the car is quite old now

I have a very good friend who is a panel beater/spayer which is great,he asked me to first find out if the panel was available ,if not he said he would be able to repair it properly but would of course cost more Labour as there is a lot more work involved cutting the grot out and making a section up

It won't be mega cheap but i don't mind if it is going to be done properly and not just plated and bodged up as it will only come back and need to be done again
The rest of the car is quite good actually,it has usual dents and scrapes here and there but i absolutely love it scrapes and all lol
You would of seen it on Ebay not long ago (unmolested tzd estate)

Cheers guys

Yeah ... I saw that one too, at the same time I was searching EBay for a temporary replacement for my TZD.

Nice looking car - but I kind've shied away from it because of that rot - on the assumption that if that was the rust I could SEE, there probably going to be more in places that I couldn't.

Just because I can weld doesn't mean I get off on it!  :D
