Am I missing something obvious here ...................... or is this chap something of an optimist?

That not a rusty hinge mate, thats where the tyre pressure sticker has discoloured with age, they all do that and go a rusty colour!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Is that rust round the wiring gaiter though?

Dont think so bandit, i think its just discolouration from where the rubber grommet is pushed against the A pillar. Get some T cut on it and it will soon come off.

I must be getting old - I've just been out to both of mine for a shufti, and neither of 'em have done that. In fact my French Mk1's sticker didn't do that either ............ :?

It does look suspiciously like the grommets have been retaining moisture.

Im pretty sure its not rust bob, just discolouration fron the rubber of the grommit against the painwork. It affects lighter coloured cars for obvious reasons.

I've had that discolouration happen on white 16v's before.

Tried to t-cut it away with no success.

Shame its not got the proper early GTi interior, I suppose it must be hard to find now - only one of the BXs we look after has it, an old F reg DTR hatch.

Not really, it sold for £875 and offer came in at 9:00 this morning, only put on at 5:30 yesterday evening.
