Strange seat fixing

i have had some problems with the drivers seat in my car

i think that the seat frame might be damaged as it's very uncomfortable over any distance and causing a bit of pain

when i started to remove this seat i found that it had been bolted to two long strips of metal that were 1/2" thick

which were then bolted down to the floorpan in the normal way, i think that it was to give some more leg room

has anyone seen this kind of modification before?

it looks like a Professional job and it fits perfectly

Yes i have! Infact i have a set

they are an official Citroen add on and move the seat mounting (and thus position) back by about 2". I guess useful for those who are abnormally proportioned, but im not so i dont use them, did have the intention of getting a big load made up, but it never happened!

If you having seat problems, i believe its something to do with the seat mounts coming loose, but havent bothered to investigate my loose seats, they dont travel far

now i know i'm not if i should put them back on after i've swaped the seat (i'm 6'2" tall)

when i'm driving, it seems that the seat's not fitting right i'm allways

shifting about i get pins and neadles and a pain in my right shoulder

maybe the seat is bent out of shape,

with my other bx's i could drive them all day no problem

you could perhaps try it without the extender rails, but i suspect there might be a little more to it, perhaps something was come adrift?

for easier access, look under the front of the seat and just behind the bar you pull to make it go forward and backward is a big bar with two thin metal spring clips in it (probably over some fabric). pull these towards you and the front seat bolster car be lifted out (watch out for two big elestic bands on the back!).

you should now be able to see the whole mechanism and possibly what ever is broken!

Classic2cv the problem might be compounded by the fact that there are a number of mounting holes on the seat runners, it might be possible that the bolts are in the wrong holes making the seat out of line

Hi Vanny, if your seat is flopping about it might be that the washers are missing from the holding down bolts, especially if they are the older allen bolt type, when fitting my new leather interior the other day

I noticed that all of the washers are missing from my drivers seat, and one of the bolts! this means that in an accident I stand a chance of going through the screen, note to self, go to scrappy, get washers and bolt, fit it properly.

i've got three interiors worth of bolts and washers (those washers come in usefull for LOADS of things!), so i hope thats exactly what it is

Spending the weekend under cars, though probably not my own, will have to check.

PS all my bolts are torx 40 heads (i think its T-40 anyhow)

i got the seat out today and swapped it over with a spare one that i had

and when i looked at it i could see that it has indeed been bent out of shape

the seat back was twisted so i would be sitting with a very bad posture

(no wonder i was getting such a painful ride)

the seats don't match but when i get around to it i'll strip it down and see

if i can rebuild it

i saw a Dutch web site some time ago showing how to fit lumbar

adjustment to GTI seats has anyone else seen it and is there a link to it?

Hmmm, now that sounds interesting! Wonder if it can be ritted to the leather (you know its a plan Stewart!).

Of interest, has anyone had the covers off a BX seat? is there room to stick a layer of memory foam in there? Specifically at the back mind!

I've had the covers off a few over the years, loads of room to put whatever you like up there but, don't know how you'd get the fabric to cling properly to the new shape.

You may even be able to do this without stripping the seat down completely. Turn one upside down and have a look.
