Well, you residents of the UK have been so polite and never mentioned anything negative about petrol BXs compared to the diesel versions, but now I know what you are all on about! Not by getting a diesel BX, I have to admit, because there must be only one or two in this country, I think! (if anybody knows where I can get one please tell me)
So I did the next best thing and bought a Peugeot 405 SRDT with 175,000 kms on the clock and basically in excellent condition. Now all you people in "The Mother Country" (do we still say that, or I am just old?) will laugh at the the price being very high, but I paid $5,000.
But what a revelation the diesel actually is. The economy is much like you all quote for the BX and my worst check with all city running in suburban Sydney is 42.62 mpg and with a fair mix of country running it gets to around 53mpg.
But the other revelation is the flexibility in low speed running, especially in stop/start traffic. I love diesel (manual, of course)!
Still got the BXs, have to admit, as silly as it is having way too many cars!
But parting with a BX is too hard

Ooh, a turbo! How lucky. That said, I love my old NA diesel BX even more after the BXagon. As you say, the engines are so flexible - a revelation compared to modern turbo diesels which tend to be very peaky.
I've owned two diesel BXs and one 16v and while the petrol certainly offers more of a grin factor, I'll be sticking with diesel power.

sorry Magpi
I missed your post! I'll have a look on the net in SA but I don't recall any ads. on the usual sites.
I have heard of a couple of diesels here over the years and Alan Smith (RIP) did mention the red wagon that Jim Rediex ?? brought in for his wife in Brisbane some years ago, but I've never seen that one come up.
I did hear of one in Maitland a few years ago but it had done over 500,000kms. But if anyone hears of any I'd be grateful!
