Steering rack boot (Gaiter) , what a MISSION!

Post by DFF53 »

Well i hd to chnge the passenger side steering rack boot on the BX for WOF (MOT) and i found out what a b***h it is to replace. What i thought would take an hour or two took nearly 6 hours. Got as far as removing the ram connector to the steering rack. Couldn t take off the rubber protector over the rack end. So i gave up on that anm slid the rubber boot onto the rack instead.
Attached is a link to pictures of the breakdown of the steering rack asembly.

yep great fun arnt they, its best to buy an after market boot as the OE one is therno plastic and dont stretch at all,

the other thing make sure you fit the new boot the corect way round on the first atempt, as both ends are very slightly diferent diamiters
