To summarise:
Tidy, comfortable and characterful.
Good body.
Good tyres and brakes. New battery, recent cambelt/tensioners, exhaust very clean.
The engine's a revelation - perky and responsive yet far more refined than I was expecting. Gearchange is spot on.
The sunroof doesn't leak, and to be honest (as with most of the car) you just wouldn't believe it's 19 yrs old! Mind you it's only done 66k miles!
Cheap to tax and insure and economical to run.
However there are a few points to bear in mind. The fuel filler neck is corroded and needs replacing. I was going to get it done at Edwards where good replacements are available.
The rear arm bearings aren't too bad but they do creak. There are a pair of replacement arms in the boot with new bearings in them. Front struts are a bit creaky too but work fine when warmed up! The ride's very good indeed.
There's a very slight LHM drip - I think it's possibly o/s strut return pipe.
The brake wear indicator flickers but the pads are OK. Must be a damaged wire?
And the PAS? Well there isn't any of course, so I would consider the 165 tyres to be a fixed feature - you wouldn't want to haul anything wider around.
Emissions were very good at last MOT and Tim attended to the car well before the TZi somewhat disrupted his plans!
