Yup, you read right, well, almost.
When I bought my BX, I bought another one for spares, which belonged to a very good family friend. His cylinder head cracked, and so he bought a brand new shell (at a cost of over £750), had new valves installed and he fitted his second-hand cam and injectors to it.
While testing the engine on the road, to set the turbo up (as he had a new one fitted as well), the octopus pipe failed, and so, deciding he had had enough, he sold me the car for spares. I took the head off and have stored it for the past 7 years.
So, there you have it, a almost new cylinder head that has covered around 70 miles.
What's it worth? £100?

Bugger.
As they say, timing is everything...
I would guess that it's worth more than £100 - a second hand head would tend to fetch between £50 and £100 as breakers won't be keen to split up a good engine, and you don't often get bottom end failure. If there's no interest on here I'd be tempted to raise some pennies on eBay.

I think that's a reasonable price but whether there's any demand for such a thing is another issue.
I bought a complete new head here in D for my 1.9 n/a for €100. the only strange thing about it was that the cam didn't have the right casting on the end for the HP pump pulley so it could have been for a Peugeot, though it was still boxed up and labelled by Citroen for a BX. Did they change the cam casting during the life of the diesel BX for the pump pulley?
This would probably be the only thing that would prevent someone with a Peugeot/ Xantia etc rather than a BX buying your nearly new head RKM - what's on the end of the cam shaft though they could swap in their cam I suppose if it's their head that's cracked.
It's ironic that your friend invested so many $$$s then gave up with the octopus - perhaps the drop that brought the barrel to overflow?
