Hi Fellas...

Post by Igor »

Hi Fellas,
I'm Igor (that's only a nickname) from Southampton and drive a very rare Citroen BX 14 TGE Exclusive on a German registrationplate.
Here comes the point: the car is now over a half year here in the UK and I get allways trouble, because of the lefthanddrive and the wrong frontlights, which beams against the crossing traffic. Another fact is, that the insurance is more expensive (lhd) is really fine for a good laugh, if you drive all the time the same car, know what is to do and for saving money swap the steering.
I want to keep the car, restore it and drive it all day, because it's a very nice, reliable car, a little bit very hard to drive, because of it's suspension, no powersteering, but I like it. Or in another way, the suspension is fine, the f**kin' speedhumps are ridiculous and the streets in Hampshire are not really the best.
Is in this forum a guy, who have a dashboard for a righthanddrive, a stering rack, frontlghts for rhd and the clue to swap the stering?
I'd also need a better steeringwheel, because my fells know in bits and pieces.

Cheers
Igor

Hi Igor,

I would change the headlights and leave the rest alone as it sounds an awful lot of hassle, it would be cheaper to buy a UK spec car! Ive got a pair of second hand UK headlamps if you need them but Im quite a distance away, theres normally new ones on ebay for £10 each too.

Finding a NON power steering car as a donor would prove difficult too.

I would just get the headlamps sorted myself.

My last British BX ended up with my wifes Parents in France all they have done is realign the headlamps for using it in France. Same issues of driving on the wrongside of the road and easy fix.

Didnt realise lhd was more expensive on the insurance, perhaps shopping around with insurers may reduce your costs. As the guy's have mentioned, i wouldnt bother changing the steering over, just get some headlights instead & enjoy your car as is, or if you really must have a rhd car, buy a british one, it'll be far cheaper & a lot less hassle.

Welcome to the club by the way :D All we need now are some pictures of your car

Okay Fellas,
I had a look about the situation and it is really not that easy to switch from left- to righthanddrive.

So I enjoy her, like she is.

Has someone of you a spare steeringwheel, a tachometer with miles (make it much easier on the road), still the frontlights for UK and a set of new sidetrims to replace my babe?
If yes, let me know. :D

If I'm right, she is a K-reg. (2/1993) and at the moment not really a beauty.
With 223.850 km on the clock is she acceptable and still reliable.
Please let me the time to replace her.
That means, fotos later on...
