An old flame

Post by Philip Chidlow »

After my old Phase 2 16v dropped off the radar some time back, I had been wondering what had happened to it. Well, a guy has got hold of it and is fitting a supercharger etc. to it. This'll be interesting. Check out the dutch video link too - awesome.

Nice alloys, ''Hurricane'' are they readily available for a BX then?

"Hurricane"? I understood the rims were "Nimrod"... and I guess they are available from somewhere - but these have had the outer rim polished I think. Also, some pretty serious spacer mods were needed.

Nimrods are 206 GTi alloys. They have the same offset as the C2 alloys which I had on mine, and agreed they needed spacers!

So do we think 5.5j x 14" nimrods would fit a standard BX when spaced out or would the wider GT arches be needed? realy like these alloys!

The 16v arches are just stuck on over the top, the bodywork behind is just the same as any other BX. 5.5 or 6j x 14 alloys should bolt straight on to your TGD if they are the right offset.

Being that Nimrods are 6.5J x 16", the relevance of 5.5J x 14" doesn't really matter
The offset is bigger than the normal BX wheels, so they'd need spacing out slightly to avoid a really crap looking stance, not to mention unsettled balance in corners.

Would 6.5Js fit though without rubbing the arches? I had 6Js on a couple of BXs and they were a tight fit.

Thanks chaps

Nimrods are available in 5.5 x 14 (link) as well as 6.5 x 16, I wouldn't want the 16's as I wouldn't want to loose ride quality but I am tempted to try a set of 5.5 x 14's with the 4 x 108 DPC but I think they would need spacing out because of the off sett?

Cor you learn something everyday! Didn't know they did 14's too, how random!

Personally, if I were fitting A/M wheels I wouldn't go for anything other than 15's purely for looks. The only 14" wheels a BX can get away with are Speedlines IMO. If it's not a valver, I'd put the 5.5J GTi wheels on.

Otherwise I'd go 15's. You might well be able to fit 195/55/15's under the arches...can't see it riding much worse with those. 195/45/15 definately loses some ride quality though, I can vouch for that. As do 16's.
