Steering wheel's knacked but they're reasonably easy to get hold of (no pun intended ), and I'm not sure I like what's going on re: graphics and wheeltrims, and the front bumper needs attention, but essentially (if the cambelt/cover situation is taken into account) could be OK. Not sure it's worth that sort of money though being a carb fed 16... and I'm sure if the pipes haven't been done they will need doing as it's a pre-facelift Mk.2.

Could this be one of those dealer 'special editions' that Citroen dealers seemed to chuck out in the early 90's? 2CV's used to get similar treatment where all they had was a couple of stickers and sold as something special.
Looks tidy enough. Even though its a 16 you still get that essential 'BX' feel that no modern car can compete with!

The steering wheel is a cover, unless you've seen it without it in place?Philip Chidlow wrote:Steering wheel's knacked but they're reasonably easy to get hold of (no pun intended ), and I'm not sure I like what's going on re: graphics and wheeltrims, and the front bumper needs attention, but essentially (if the cambelt/cover situation is taken into account) could be OK. The graphics are the ones you could buy in Halfords/A1 stores etc.
I'd have been perfectly happy with a running, clean bodied 1.6 petrol for my MX5. If my 16RE didn't have power steering then even better, it would have felt like my 16RE. This whole thing of values is very interesting... if it were a 200,000 mile, rusting in the boot, scruffy diesel no-one would bat an eye at the price.Note the manual choke conversion, which is worth having, body looks very clean asides the nasty stickers and mis matched wheeltrims, but as we all know 16 Petrols arent loved, I think £400-500 is abouts it money as it wont have Power Steering.
Are people still driving BXs in the pursuit of parsimony, or is it now enthusiasm - in which case, surely anything with the best body condition and most intact trim and equipment should be hovering at the top of the values, regardless of engine. Once rot's set in, the time to fix it surely outweighs the values of any car.

Sadly not, if its not a TZD or 16v you will struggle to find a home, Ive bought some lovely 16/19 petrol examples in the past for peanuts for that reason. I do think that 16RS will be sat on autotrader for a while to come yet.

Richard makes a valid point about driving them out of enthusiasm. I do. I can live with poor fuel economy. I believe now if anyone's looking for a BX they are best advised to go for condition and history. Forget being able to choose location, model, colour, spec etc. A BX is a BX.
And I must've not been wearing my glasses - I didn't realise it was a steering wheel cover,

I dont think they are that bad on fuel, my old Gti used to do 30mpg on a commute & on a run i managed 36mpg, which for a car thats 20yrs old i think is pretty reasonable.
The 1400 should manage 5-10mpg more, the 1600 petrol carb should do 30ish, along with the 1900 carb.
Auto's probably 5-10mpg less than the carb models i guess?
I tend to average 10-12k a year in my txd, so a petrol would be a false economy, if i was doing less than that, or just wanted a car for the weekend i'd be perfectly happy with any of the petrol models.
Anybody know what the injected versions of the 1400 & 1600 are like on fuel?
I agree with some of the sentiments on here, if you want a lowish mileage, good conditiond bx, they tend to be petrol models, so if its a bargain i'd certainly recommend them to new members.

Us brits never got a 1.4 injection although our foreign cousins did. I've only ever seen one. A Greek registered estate badged as a '14i Kat'.
Most BX'ers seem to fall into 2 categories.
1. Like BX's, like the fact they're cheap and like the diesels because they're tough, quick enough for modern motoring (the TD is more than ample) and cost buttons to run
or
2. Like fast BX's and buy a 16 valve.
Anything else seems to fall into a more 'specialist' category where there are less buyers.

Aha, i wondered why the 1.4i was rare
Did we also get the monopoint injection 1.9 like the 1.6? Or does that one not exist?

In the UK was either they were either carb fed up until carb fed (until 1991) or multi point fuel injection (TZi/GTi). They kept a 16 petrol in the model line up until the end of production as a "TX" but as of 1992 the legislation meant the need for a catalyst so the hence the switch to single point injection.MULLEY wrote:Aha, i wondered why the 1.4i was rare

You forgot "...into the ground" after that. I don't believe running and maintaining a BX of any shape properly really counts as buttons unless you're also a serious DIYer - which is why there's always something broken which is "normal for a BX".Ian_Fearn wrote: 1. Not commenting on your own philosophy, more remembering BXs from previous attempts to run/buy them like my GTi 4x4, which I got for £50 because the CV joint went - drove off in it as a RWD one with the diff locked and got it repaired, but the previous owner wouldn't even spent the £90 for a CV joint replacement.
