As per Ken, unless you can do the cambelt, service the car & more than likely change the clutch, it's going to cost you more that what you paid for the car even if you took it to a back st garage to get that lot done, presuming thats all there was of course, which i doubt. ZX's are quite plentiful, patience is your friend :D

I bought one because they're very basic technology, nuts and bolts instead of computers and hydraulics.

However, having been driving round in the red shed for about 5 months now, it has been totally reliable, but it seems to be made from egg box cartons and chewing gum.

There is simply no comparison to the BX, never mind the XM.

One further point I have to add.

My "red shed" permormed faultlessly this morning despite the heavy early morning snow and ice, it simply passed everything on the road, even a subaru  mind you, that was probably stuck due to the driver  and it got me safely to church and back, when many people who live much closer than I didn't get there. :?
Maybe they value their cars more than me

Narrow summer tyres ftw Ken. Funny how if you see any crashed cars this winter, they're all 4x4's   All down to the drivers who think that because they have 4wd that they can still go round corners on snow & ice at 60mph

sorry about the delay on reply
been with out propper net coverage in edinburgh for the last couple of days

didnt go for the car in the end
purely because i couldnt get any information out of the guy about the car other than it doesnt blow smoke and its a great runabout

told him he was giving me the runabout and ended it there

as for my workshop skills
i can pull the clutch appart and rebuild it but haven't done a cambelt before so may take me a while to do that
plus having no tools over here would make it a bit more fun as well (ok a step father with full tool kit to steal from him to fix my car would be a better descriptions)

been looking at a few renult kangoos as well
just been driving one recently and although the suspension is nothing to write home about the handling was pretty amazing (turbo d with no noticeable lag)

kangoos are used quite often as disabled access cars as they can fit a person in a wheel chair in the back very easy (at the lose of 3 seats)
