Looks like the information is not chapter & verse but limited to specific questions. The providing of anwers to these is then subject to you convincing them that there is a valid "need to know" judged by them. :?

A lot of people in the rs owners club use that form to find out previous owners, history etc of their rs turbos, cosworths etc.

You could contact the previous owners I guess and find out what they did to it if you buy a car with no history (like a couple of mine)

Yes, very true Tim,

I tend to find personally with cars as old as BX's these days you just take them on merit of what they are (rather than worry about what someone did to it 10 years ago)

True but its nice to know a little bit about their past and who owned them, kinda builds up on the "character" of the car.

I agree with tim,

My car was registered in oldham (bu) when it was new and i travelled to devon to buy the car in 2001. Its had 7 previous owners and service history goes back 2 previous owners so theres 5 other people who have owned it in 10 years. I would also like to know which dealer it was originaly sold from as i dont have any info on this. :(

I don't know if there's such a facility in Germany - the papers do list the previous owner and his address - so if you want to hassle/get in touch!

I know the total history of my TRD since new in 1985 - basically one owner - and regularly see the bloke who bought my 16v new from Citroen Cologne in 1988.
The yellow one is more complicated having a murky multi-owner history that shows with its battle scars, though the last fellow, who I traced and met ( he wasn't so pleased to see his old car!) looked after it including the rather fetching and well executed yellow paint job.

They used to give previous owner details with the New Zealand vehicle history but now it only states the mileage and date of ownership change.

But if you pay you get the previous owner names, locations (not physical address) and all the Dealers that it has passed through.

Certainly interesting, but I dont think i would care simply about the previous keepers, i would be much more interested to know insurance history, TAX history, MOT history all of which should be in a database somewhere?

I know you can now look at MOT details online.

Yea,surely the knock back a lot of requests due to it not being for an 'important reason'.

If so, what would you say in the section for the reason of request?

And I'm not clear what you actually get. Do they send you ALL the previous owners' names? or is it just the first.

I'd like to do this for the CX as I'm interested to trace where it has lived over the years.

It is pretty interesting to note how laxs thinks have become with the information overload courtesy of the internet.

Actually I would say things are now a bit to slack and New Zealand is terrible for that slackness of privacy. A well used website is www.carjam.co.nz. Provided you know the registration number or vin number you can access a limited information online and even more when you part with a little cash.

I don't know if it's the same now, but when I last did (circa 1990) one of these requests and paid the fee, I got back a load of photocopies of the previous V5s issues and a copy of the old green log book for a car. From that I was able to see if there was any changes in details (colour, engine, etc) and look-up the previous keepers if they still lived at the same address.

Certainly useful is the www.motinfo.gov.uk site to either look at the testers' manual or the MOT history (since computerisation).

From what I've seen of other people's searches, they write a letter to the previous keeper(s) and sometimes get to know a bit more about the car / owner how it was used and looked after. (Fred loved his Morris 1100 and never took it out in the rain sort of stuff ;) )

Here's an example, from research done to retain a registration mark, although probably interesting given the time elapsed and the unusual car.
