I've got a couple of major probs with my txd which has its mot looming

The 1st is either a stretched throttle cable or the pedal box has cracked. I've got a spare pedal box which is fine (as far as i can tell) & throttle cable.

The 2nd is a consistent lhm leak which i think is coming from the octopus (i've got an octopus in my stores), deffo one of the pipes entering the front height corrector (i think i may a new one of these as well in my stash). Another leak has sprung up as well, no idea where from (but the lhm is now running onto the driver side wheel), but constant topping up of lhm for some reason doesn't seem to fix the problem

The 2nd issue above will deffo cause the mot fail

I'd be extremely grateful if there's anyone out there who would be willing to help, distance at this point is probably not an issue. Cash is available, no problem. Or can anyone recommend a good garage that's either near to me (nr chesterfield) or perhaps one further away if they are dependable & actually affordable?

the LHM dripping on the drivers wheel may be only the strut return pipe.

Have you checked if you can see a leak near the reservoir above the wing under the bonnet?

The leak may be at the end of a pipe. They often are. You may be able to shorten the pipe or splice in a few inches of new pipe to fix the split, without replacing a whole length.

I'll double check the strut return pipe, they are both attached i did check that far. This was a brand new one fitted less than 2yrs ago, so if it's failed i'm not impressed.

I've checked out the resevoir, no leak underneath, nice & dry, i visually tried following the octopus as far as i could see to see if i could spot where its coming from. I suspect you may well be right, however not having easy access to the underside of the car & not being 100% sure of what to do have kinda put me off. I'll probably only cause more lhm to start pissing out due to my inexperience.

I'm a bit wary of going down the bodge route as the pipes are as old as the car, so when they start splitting, then it's probably best to replace the whole lot then i wont have to worry for another 17yrs

I was hoping for a friendly hand to have a look to see exactly what the issue is & to be pointed towards a good garage. Or if someone really wants to get mucky

Isn't Lightfoot in your area?

A guy I once new local to me would drive to him for any work on his car.

Having just checked the web tonight, i found Lightfoot is based in Ilkeston. Also found Frontlines in Chesterfield, their website does mention hydraulic repairs. I'll give them both a bell tomorrow & see what they say etc....

Ive not used either but I understand Mark Lightfoot to be very good.

I've gotten booked into frontlines this Sat for a diagnosis of whats wrong, i'm hoping i may be able to fix it myself

Been to Frontlines & had a good chat with Pete the owner. Diagnosis is split octopus & driver side strut return pipe is perished (i replaced that about 2yrs ago, those non citroen originals are shite ). Also found the pedal box is bust, so that's going to get fixed as well. Booked in for Tuesday

If that's an old used octopus you've got spare, don't give them that to fit, as the octopus is only a smaller fraction of the 3 hours labour they will charge and will be a false economy.

I've got a brand spanking new one, i've been warned about trying to cut corners & tbh i dont have the expertise to tell how much mileage i could get out of a 2nd hand one, so on that basis i wont ever be going down that route.
