hi folks
might be a dumb question... today i replaced my knackered starter (not a fun job on the 16v...).
being an environmentally conscious sort of chap i don't want to chuck the old one in landfill. it does still work.. albeit incredibly reluctantly in cold weather (needs a thwack to wake it up).
how does one dispose of big hunks of metal like this - take it to the local recycling centre/tip is it?

I think most council waste sites are quite good at this nowadays. As well as the landfill skip, our waste site has a metal skip, and an electrical goods skip. There are also a team of gannets on the look out for tasty scaps. So if it was me, I would leave it on the front of the electrical skip, in clear view, and I would be pretty sure that if there was any residual value in it, it would end up in the right place.
