pedal heights

Post by sdelasal »

Hi again, another question - My brake pedals sits approx 1/2" below the accelerator and clutch pedal. I read in the archives that the clutch pedal height can be adjusted at the other end. Can the brake pedal height be adjusted? I can't see any reference to doing that. Steve

from memory, the brake pedal and accelerator pedal are at the same height.

On two of my diesels, the clutch pedal broke causing the clutch pedal to sit low and not engage properly.

Thankfully, once warmed up, a BX 17 or 19RD has enough torque to start in gear - and you can change gear easily without the clutch at low engine speeds and by matching revs to speed.

Relax. The clutch should be higher than the brake pedal and, provided you're not twanging the throttle cable like a guitar string - but the throttle's fully open at the engine end when the pedal's on the floor, the accelerator pedal's just fine where it is.

Trying to line all the pedals up is just going to give you a headache. Trust me.

I'm not sure whether its the height of the pedal or their distance apart but I'm finding I keep catching myself when moving from one one pedal or another. It'd help going from brake to accel pedal, if I didn't have to 'lift' too, to avoid snagging on the higher accel pedal! I'll have to get under there and see what can be adjusted/moved. Steve

Well I managed to fix it. If you look at the accelerator pedal there is a return pin at right angles to the pedal which sits against the bracket when in the rest position. What I did was slip a small piece of rubber tube over the pin and add a piece of trim edging to the bracket so now the pedal effectively rests in a lower position. I adjusted the cable at the pump end to give some free play and now it's good to go with both brake & accel pedals at the same height. Steve
