Wanted - nearside gaiter for BX 19TGD April 1991 model

Post by GMC555 »

My faithful BX, owned for 18 years, has just failed its MOT due to a split in the nearside rubber gaiter. I'm told that these are very difficult to obtain so can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Many thanks.

Difficult to obtain? nah, I get one off the shelf from my local factors not long for about £8!

Welcome to the club though!

I take it you mean a CV boot?

Who told you they were hard to find? A quick eBay search shows 87 for sale...
GSF and Euro Car Parts should have some, as would most decent motor factors as they are not specific to the BX. My advice would be to go for a genuine one as sometimes the rubber on pattern parts is not of the highest quality.

Don't give up!

There are two different sorts for BXs Im reliably informed, one for the TD/16v/GTI etc and the other type for all other models which is what you want. As Matt says they are common and dont cost very much, you can get a universal type but best to get a specific one.

Thanks to all for the quick replies. I now know where to look! (It would be the nearside one, which I'm told is more difficult to fit, but that's the way it goes.)

Thanks again.

Just be certain it's the front CV boot and not the rear.

When fitting the f/n/s one, the driveshaft has a tendancy to pull out of the gearbox, if you take car it can be fitted without removing the driveshaft, but place a tray underneath just incase of oil spillage.
Also check the gear oil level while you are down there. :)

Sorry guys, I should have said in my original post "nearside steering rack gaiter". Apologies for the slip.

Any further assistance gratefully received.

or these do not get a genuine one as they are thermoplastic and do not streach, but get a purpose made after market rubber one,

make sure you fit it the correct way round as both ends are very slightly diferent in diamiter, if you fit it the wrong way you ill have a job getting it to say on at the rack body end, and you certainly dont want to be fitting it twice
