I was going to have bid on this to see exactly what it was made up of & post up some piccies to see if anyone on here could replicate these parts or know of other companies that make equivalent bits to hopefully fix some of the worn out struts that we all seem to have or will shortly have. However price is starting to go up, if anyone with the skills & knowledge is interested in this, i'm prepared to put a few quid in to secure these for the club members interests? Anyone interested? We'll have to be quick as there's an hour before the auction ends.

funny enough thats what i was thinking i would do, and i was the highest bidder for 4 days, however, i can't imagine it would be that hard to take a strut apart and measure up worn components?

In that case let's not bother & save some cash :lol: It would be handy to have some of these hard to get parts measured up & listed up as a sticky to help current & future members in sorting out their knackered struts. I was impressed by the postings about the hydraulic pump that was done recently.

Tis easy to take a strut apart, I've rebuilt a fair few with kits in the past.
Shouldn't imagine it would be difficult to replace the bits that fail, except for the piston maybe, sinc they tend to end up with quite a lip in them where they sit against the nylon "seal"..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

The kits themselves are unavailable, but I cant see that it would be a massive problem to buy individual bits from a variety of places to make a kit up..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

It would be handy to have some piccies of what parts a strut makes up along with a list of places where the individual items can be bought & a diy guide on taking the strut apart etc...I dont want much do i :lol:

AS it goes a couple of us on BXP are looking into sourcing relevant bits, and I shall report back when they have all been sourced, along with the likelyhood of continued availability.

I dont have a strut in bits right now, but I'll pull one down over the bank holiday weekend if I get chance and post some piccies up.

Heres a pic of the innards......

The castellated plastic bush wears as do the internal seals in that area.
I have the dimensions of these somewhere.
The inside piston, as Doc says, develops a wear groove and is a cause of the struts sticking in one position. This needs polishing out at recon time.

The thrust bearing at the top of the outer casing wears too, but mainly it dries out and responds well to lubrication. Theres a few o rings too to replace but these are probably quite easy to source.

I have an oldish strut in my shed somewhere i will take it apart later in the year and attempt to photograph all the bit's while i clean it up.
