Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Thank you. It hides its miles well certainly. A few bits of tarting up in the near future and it'll be worth polishing!
We went to see Deerhoof at the Brudenell.

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Times is hard Mick!
Rear suspension boot now fitted and new 'stat housing all sealed up nicely. The housing had some hairline cracks at the bottom of it, so no wonder it wouldn't seal! All filled up with fresh anti freeze and ready for anything. Maybe.
Centre exhaust section needs replacing fairly urgently. I'm going to try and wait until after Christmas though.
Other than that, it seems to be going really well.

As per other thread, car getting recovered on Monday.
This Polo is brilliant though, cannot quite believe how nippy a little petrol engine can be. It's only done
61K and is in fairly remarkable condition.
Just need to find a parcel shelf and radio for it now. Are most radios compatible with VW wiring from that
era?

My van's also from 1993, and has ISO connectors as standard. That's not to say someone hasn't butchered the wiring before you though!

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Very true. There doesn't appear to be the usual length of cables protruding from the radio orifice,
but rather a static plug at the back of said orifice, presumably with wires behind. If it's all there, it's
a neat way of doing it.
Investigations will ensue tomorrow.
Cheers.

Erm, it's not the casing for a (long since lost) removable radio is it?Wooscary wrote:There doesn't appear to be the usual length of cables protruding from the radio orifice,

Tim, that's very kind of you, thanks.
Mat, I think you're right. Actually, yes, you are definitely right. Once I'd whipped the old
cage out it all started looking much more familiar. This is what the back of it looked like:

And then I've got one of these:

And one of these:

Which look fairly ordinary. I think with the right radio/adaptor combo it should be fine. What do you reckon?

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
OOOH A Genesis, I remember those when new (Yes Im that old), a great little car, watch for leaking headgaskets though! If its a 1.3 5 speed they are suprisingly brisk!
Top of the range for the time, sunroof, rev counter, centre console (no fag lighter), it would have as original fit a remoavle Sony Radio Casette so standard ISO connectors will be fine.
BTW it looks lovely! please dont "slam it" paint it matt black and put tiny wheels on it.....as is the case with most non aircooled VW's...

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
It is the 1.3. I'll keep an eye on the HG.
Right, I'll look in to a Sony unit, there are a lot of VW branded Sony ones around it seems,
my first Golf had one, seemed to do the job.
It is far too nice and original to do anything to, and that certainly isn't our style! No chalkboard
bonnets.
Cheers.

Excellent, a nice little car there Martin, quite rust resistant too, by the mileage etc its been cared for. Any modern stereo will fit, CD of course. You get used to the rubbish brakes and non powered steering, they are just "like that".
They do have a cambelt though so worth checking when it was last changed!

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Yeah I can't spot any rust so far. There's been a slight repair around the passenger door handle (probably a break in),
which is hardly noticeable.
I've actually just got off the phone with the garage about the timing belt. He's quoted me £199 for
the belt, water pump (which has the tensioner integrated?) and coolant change. Does that seem reasonable?
