You can fit an estate back box to a hatch, just the exhaust tip needs cutting off to length, otherwise it sticks out by over a foot & looks totally stupid. The reason i know this is that my local garage bought the wrong one & once fitted i said, "spotted anything wrong?" "erm, it seems to be sticking out a bit", i just laughed & said that they'd ordered the estate one, they just cut it off with a pipe cutter & its worked great ever since :) So don't go chucking it out Tom or selling it cheap, i'd just keep it & get it fitted & altered :)

This one doesn't have a hanger, are they the wrap around, bolt together type (my astra had this) like a 'C' shape with the hanger welded to the top of the strap? If so it'll be used, otherwise I might get something sporty. Oh, but I wasn't spending money on this car was I? Damn.

Sounds like you've not got a correct one, as long as it will fit in place of the original one, you could easily get someone to weld a hanger bit onto the new exhaust so it'll fit properly rather than trying something alternative & probably worse.

Mystery exhaust eh?

So the Polo's blower is now working majestically on all speeds, and gets nice and hot on the screen and footwell
positions, but the cabin position will only produce cold air. Any thoughts on that?

Also the speedo seems to be off by a fair bit. 30mph on the speedo feels like 20mph!

This one doesn't have a hanger
Interesting, I have one the same ready to go on Timex - I'll be cutting the hanger off the old silencer to weld on.

Don't worry about the cabin blowers only producing cold air, they are all the same. Also the speedo's being out is a pretty common problem with them too. :)

The BX returns!

Finally had a day to pick it up from the garage. It feels like a very comfortable bus in comparison
to the Polo (which is doing excellently too).

Pipe work done, various bits of crispy exhaust replaced.

The driver's door seal got holed when the door got vandalised, which I think is the cause of
the footwell being very wet. I currently have a long cable powering a dehumidifier and a heater
in the car. A little blob of sealant on the door seal may do for now.

It's good to have it back.

Dehumidifier and heater. It is lovely and toasty in there now, tempted to sit in it. :D

Also please note the incredible amount of snow we've had...

Hooray, glad you have it back Martin! I thought you lot oop north got more snow than us down here in the south? We have several inches, and it's growing... Nearly crashed more times than I can count on my hands on the way home today, the roads are all slushy and really really slippery round here. My old, eco tyres with a skinny spare on the front probably don't help though. Hope I can get to work tomorrow...

What are your plans BX wise? Will you use the polo and spend some time on it?

How time flies etc...

Very strange having two cars.

And now a family friend has offered me their 97 (?) Volvo V70 AWD for free. Probably ridiculous to even
consider it, but kind of tempting. Does anyone have any knowledge of these, in terms of should I just
say no straight away? :D Not sure which engine, petrol certainly, huge definitely.

You could take it and sell it on for a profit? I'd certainly give you double what you paid...

In all seriousness, if they're selling for cheap silly money nowadays I might have to look at one for next year's winter hack. They would seem ideal for what we need, and a nice sounding 5 pot engine to boot! OK, I'd prefer a BX 4x4 estate but wouldn't like to run one as an everyday car.

Is it diesel or petrol? It's free, so what is there to lose, if it needs work doing, just sell it on.
