Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Yeah, I thought it might just need a bit of bedding in, but it does have that classic airy feel. I'd give the
bleeding a go, but as I've just paid out for the work, it seems fair to let them do it.
I might put something heavy in the boot though and do a bit of braking .
Interesting to know about the 'stat, it was a bit of a mess when I took the housing off in terms of
the amount of what looked like old crispy sealant, so it was hard to see what had been there. In
terms of the mating surfaces, they don't look too bad.
Cheers for the thoughts.

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
I said grudgingly only because my girlfriend was in the vicinity and was already slightly bemused at me spending much of the afternoon "doing the car". Although it did give her more chance to watch Le Tour. I like cleaning a lot really, not just cars.

Looks smashing! I thinik red is the best colour to polish, you just seem to be able to get a lovely deep shine to it.

It is nice to buff up certainly. Although I did douse it in what I'd thought was a bottle of t-cut only to discover it was actually a very similar looking old red bottle of wax. Just then the sun came out, dried it on, and was a bugger to shift.
Anyway, here was the activity for the evening.

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Back from the Citroen Repair Centre in Reddish, good chaps. Brakes bled, mystery tick tick noise from rear wheel remedied.
(Balance weights on inside of wheel fouling disc dish/cover thingy).
They had a very clean 16v XM in having a new radiator. Nice.
He even found me a new 'stat housing to oil cooler hose, result!
So now there is just that hose, new 'stat to put in and that should do for now, just in time for a couple of thousand miles
around France in a couple of weeks. Four people, camping. Bring it on.

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
The route is fairly fluid, but basically head down from Calais through Brittany, south at least as far as Nantes,
then straight across east, maybe drive through Luxembourg and up in to Belgium and home.
We do plan on visiting the contraceptive museum in Condom, because we are puerile and childish.
Any crossovers with your plans?

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Well, we are crossing on the 22nd August, heading South down the border and filling up with LPG and diesel in Luxembourg, hopefully mountain biking and walking in the Alps, then up to the Loire Valley around the end of the month for a few days. Nothing set in stone, just depends what we feel like doing when we get up that day. The best kind of holiday!

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
So is Luxembourg cheap for fuel?
You'll be there a little later than us then, we go from the 6th to the 18th.
Rough plans and flexibility are definitely the way to go. Sounds like you've got some good activities.
We had a very tight timetable driving to Norway a few years ago (three nights to get there), which was plain
horrible, 10 hour drives! Argh, it's all coming back to me.

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
About 95p/litre for diesel last time I checked earlier this year - not massively cheaper than France but worth a small detour if you have an empty tank. Hope you have a great time, and don't forget to pop into any scrapyards for any (UK) hard to find bits! If you're allowed that is...

Yep it's super cheap there - you'll see there are hour long queues (literally) for the trucks at service stations as with long range fuel tanks they can get well into the UK and back without filling up. Good country to do business - check your ebay VAT receipt!

Re: Wooscary's TZD 1993
Excellent, I'll have to give that a go then.
Today was the day for new 'stat, new 'stat housing to oil cooler hose.
So got on with that, unfortunately even with what must be the correct 'stat and seal, the seal wouldn't
sit in the housing at all, had to use one of the other seals that came with it, and it doesn't seem to be
sealing any better. Argh!

Decided it was a good idea to figure out how radiators are removed, so off came lots of bits.

"New" hose waiting to be fitted, note handy BX table.

Other jobs done on a very full day off: Used Araldite to fix split in the steering wheel (not structural don't worry), attempted a glove box hinge repair which is nearly very good.
