GSF - bit of a shocker .........?

Post by Linegeist »

What's going on here? Called GSF yesterday as the petrol pump on the Athena's starting to weep engine oil from its breather ----- only to be told that they don't stock them any more!

I thought the petrol engines fitted to the 1.6 & 1.9 BX's were common across a whole slew of French cars .................................. so why the shortage of such a common component???

Fortunately I have a mate who works at a dealership, so he's going to source one at cost price for me (I fixed his strimmer this weekend) but hell's teeth! Are our cars really getting this hard to get spares for now?

Maybe it's time I cotton-wooled my pair of French beauties, and used the crappy VW Bora a bit more for everyday use. :?

The vacuum units for my 14's Carb and distributor were hard to source too - one having to be ordered from Germany.

The garage recently sourced my fuel pump from a main dealer, and it wasn't cheap, well not as cheap as the pattern one I got off of ebay that failed after a few hundred miles

Talk about sustainability, huh!

I've been thinking the same thing about moth-balling, but I live in my off-road space so the car has to stay out on the road for now. And I like driving it too much!

It's been getting increasingly difficult to get BX bits for a long while now.
Still around if you know where to look, but laregly pointless going to GSF now, unless you want styling parts for BMW's...
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I've got a tem 'Bling Shop Owner' locally who's sourced something that fits (the dealer fell through)) ........... but this is throwing up an emerging problem, nicht war!

Is it time to start s swap-shop or spares-pool section, where we list the bits we have we don't need and what we want for them .......? A couple of the classic bike forums I infest have this, and it works quite well ........ :?

Not a bad idea, although in the past it's always seemed to work quite well that someone asks for part A, and oftentimes someone will have past A and send it / deliver etc, usually for beer money since we're a pretty good bunch on here.

No. I run a GS as a daily. It's just the point at which a club is more important and vital to help network together a load of parts hoarders. The only think about running a 20+ year old car (or slightly younger for that matter) is to start stocking up on things that you might need (e.g. brake pads, starters, etc.), so when you do need them to keep you mobile, you don't have to wait ages to get them.
