its official..I'm not sane..THE GT MK1 will be saved!!

Post by B-Hive »

Well despite my initial adamance and certainty that my donor BX GT was going to be just that..a donor...a mere 24 hours later I have reappraised the situation and decided that I will keep both BX's and get the GT back on the road in its own right.

This I decided after the lengthy drive home in her, and then further assessment. The terminal issues with the car are in fact fixable..And the repair process started today..and I was soooooo happy and excited.
I guess part of me knew that this was the right decision.

So reconstruction of the very poor dash has commenced. Mechanically brilliant, very straight body work, zero rust, and great upholstery/trim (lovely black and white velour) ..

The other big job will be that of a re-spray. Put into context, this option beats the heck out of two power plant removals and one replacement...not to mention strut swaps, rear arm swaps..interior swap, complete hydraulic hose swap.. plus all the other transplants that I was intending to undertake.

It currently has the GT Cromadoras that need a spruce up, but I think I will be putting the speedlines on. But given my history, I will no doubt go purist again and spend a weekend or two on the original Cromadoras.

The car has been off the road for the last 5 years and it was remarkable just how well she went after years of being disused. There are over $15000 (about 6500 pounds) worth of receipts with the car for the 8 years prior to it being laid up.

The drive home ...nice burbly throaty exhaust..Steering and handling superb..torquey and very lively motor, smooth gearbox, minor occasional judder in the clutch..ride so responsive..yet smooth...in short a very very different experience to the TRS auto of almost exactly the same age (both 85's)

So the TRS's loss is the GT's gain...

I'd be keen to hear from other GT owners..I can see getting very hooked on this one.. how many others are around this forum?

£6500-00  What necessary work would cost that or does that include petrol, oils and frivolous embellishments too? :?

Good call on keeping it btw. :D

You called,

if its a GT, leave it stock, forget the speedlines they are for Mk2's! bask in its Mk1 loveliness and keep the correct MK1 wheels for it.

This is what you should end up with!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
