If you're a foreigner coming for a holiday you could insure it in your own country before leaving, I doubt if you could if you're buying one off a tourist.

I found the insuriers were particullarly un-helpful when I wanted to lend a car to my Aussie niece, they couldn't get cover anywhere, same would apply to Americans it seems.

The only way we could get cover was for me to sell them the car first which I did, (just a paper exercise, I bought it back when they went home) Gibbo.

A comment from another forum

"Adrian Flux tend to insure nearly anything peculiar. Might be worth a look if you havent already."

Also someone was saying that you can insure on the chassis number with some companies but I've never heard that done. Gibbo.

I know some people have bought a car outside the UK, insured it using the chassis number and driven it home. I think Footman James were the insurers.

Yup. Many companies will do this.
