Can I put my two-penneth worth in here.

I don't agree with censoring the content of posts unless it crosses commonly-regarded boundaries (racism etc) but I think it is plain good manners to use the * key in thread titles. Also, I think everyone knows what Sh*t or Sh1t means, but doing that takes the edge off it. Tim's right. Let's not slip into creating a forum which will put people off at first glance. Let them decide later lol!

"Fark the light blew!"

Presumably, come Christmas, Kiwi'll be giving us a darn-under rendering of "Fark the herald angels" or "Away in a Minger"!

Ok, so since things have clearly been edited I have no idea what the originality of this was.
However....
Phil raises a good point, and whilst MDS' title was a word considered bad by some, well, it's not like it happens often is it.
Infact a quick gander back through the archive suggests that a thread title involving a swear word is almost unique.
Whereas swearing in thread is commonplace.

Jon Wood himself had no problem with swearing aside from the "C" word, which is understandable, very few people like cats.

Since it's clearly caused so much consternation amongst our clan then I shall edit the thread title.

Should we be having discussions about baning swearing entirely on here then?
Say with anyone swearing having posting rights removed for a week?

In which case I'll have to ban myself on a regular bloody basis.

I've got to say I saw the title and wasn't offended by it. Although I don't swear much compared to some (just to convey emphasis) I don't have a problem with others swearing as they see fit.
It's like spelling - some people are irritated by poor spelling, others by swearing.

But if it's generally felt that we should avoid swearing in thread titles (and I can see the point) then that's fine and we'll try and uphold that.

As my old English teacher used to lofitily intone, whenever a boy was overheard giving vent to a small oath (and just before the cane was applied), "Swearing denotes a lack of the knowledge of the correct superlatives, demeans the user and insults the hearer. Kindly desist. Now bend over!"

My mother used to say "Swearing demonstrates a lamentable paucity of vocabulary", just before administering similar summary chastisement.
