Have we got something special here or am I biased? I don't really frequent that many car forums, but this one is a lot more than a car forum. The level of debate here is worthy of some Universities I'm sure. I love it.

but am I just being blinkered: are there really any other forums on a par with this one (car orientated) that I should consider? (BTW I'm already on BXP but not as often as I should be!)...

I am on a couple of classic car forums - one called autoshite and the other called popular-classics - plus the XM forum, which is full of knowledgable people too, and a nice spread of society too.

The SD1 forum is quite good, but not as busy or jovial as this.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

The only motor i give a monkey's about enough to bother to be part of a forum is the BX.

Hence, BXP is my home, BXC is (more recently) the nextdoor neighbour and BX16valve is like the holiday home you only visit a couple of times a year... collecting dust, tumbleweed rolling past....
I have zero patience for your tedium.

/\ what he said really..

I've been on here for, er, 5 years I think, and BXP a bit less, but BXP is always "home" to me, I do stop by BX16V now and again, but it's sadly a bit stagnant which is odd I think, but there ya go..

BXC is slowly becoming a bit more like BXP I think, in so much as it's doing what it had to do to survive, becoming a more social hang out rather than all BX talk.
BXC can't ever be BXP, and this is no bad thing, BXP only works because we all personally know eachother very well, hell, alot of us have driven stupid mileages and silly times of the day night to help eachother out for a curry and a beer, although we'd do it all for free! BXC can't ever be quite like that since it's too big, and meeting every member would involve some drastic mileage, like NZ and Australia for starters!

I'm not a member of autoshite, but probably should be, and there's many other forums I have joined, but rarely, if ever, bother with.

I'm on quite a few forums, and sadly BXC is not unique. It does have its own flavour though, which is important.

The Retro-Rides forum is very, very managed, with no swearing at all and a strict 'keep it on topic' approach. That upsets some people but thousands seem to like it. I say fair play to them - ruling a forum with an iron fist is often a recipe for disaster, but it seems to work there.

Autoshite is a polar opposite, with little moderation, lots of harsh language and while generally ol' shite focussed, there are off-topic threads that are very popular. It only has one section, but seems to work.

The 2CVGB forum (members only) is a very silly place. Threads often drift off topic and silliness can spring up at any moment. It's great.

I think this place is really good, because there aren't a lot of BXs out there, yet there are at least three forums (including the 16v one) dedicated to them. Yet there's a good turnover of topics to keep me coming back. I've never signed up to BXP - I think one BX forum is enough for me.

That's possibly because the website seems to have been designed by someone who doesn't like websites! I didn't even know there was a forum and I joined ages ago. I found it the other week, and like you say, ----^

I occasionally pop by the CC forum, but quite rarely since little seems to change year to year..
Which is odd in so much as it has a captive audience.
You pay to see it, so you'd think people would use it?

+1

I love AS, been on there since jan 2006 and love the fact that it works without moderation. It does have its occasional hiccups but the general will seems to be for a type of cooperation.

Retro rides can be a right pain. There was a thread someone started of 'you and your car' - dead simple: post up a picture of yourself with an old car if you want. This thread vanished without a trace. Presumably it broke some precious rule of RR that is so dangerous to the sterility of that forum that it had to be eliminated. I go on there from time to time but it's also so large that any post you make very quickly vanishes into the mists of time and you need to go searching for replies and follow ups if you don't go on every day.

Still, the stickers were good! I have both an 'RR' sticker and a 'extended life vehicle' sticker on the CX rear window.

Dunno why the CCC one is so dire - are there only 25 members in the club now or something? makes me feel a bit demotivated writing the CX column for the CCC mag tbh...

It's too segmented ie too many sections. There should be 10-12 forum parts tops. The 'noggin 'n' natter section makes it sound like some old people's home and the rumours section (ie interesting chat?) is right at the arse-end.

The website has been acknowledged by Adrian to be poor, needing a major rethink/upgrade. I couldn't agree more. If only I designed websites!

The forum should be the MAIN part of the CCC web presence. All information with the exception of the model histories etc. should be in the forum section, encouraging those looking for information/news to VISIT the forum.

Membership of the Forum should be FREE to all legitimate parties NOT just paid up members. The club membership fee should mean you get the Citroenian every month, that you get a few quid off attending events and giving you a discount at Citroen parts/Adrian Flux et al.

/\ inclined to agree.
The forum itself is a tiny link on the left, hardly prominent..

For what it's worth Graeme I always read CX Life, well, I read the whole mag, but CX Life is always entertaining and I very much like the DIY aspect of your bit. not only is it very interesting copy it's good to see someone rebuild rather than replace.
It's people like you, doing stuff like that in print that could well keep older cars on the road when spares availability dries up.

Even though I dont own, nor will ever own, a CX your colomn gets a big thumbs up from me.
