My '93 TXD needed an LHM flush so went to the nearest Citroen Main dealer to buy some as I am capable of doing the work myself. The service manager told me that there was no such thing as flushing fluid! When I asked him how they flushed their customers systems he said they just use LHM fluid! I later returned with a print out off the internet to prove that Total supply such a fluid and I was able to order it! My point is - I wonder how many Citroen owners have been conned this way!

It might not be a con - the service dealer may genuinely not know what he's talking about.

Some citroen dealers have been known to deny the existence of the BX entirely...

I've never used hyraflush, same as main dealer I suppose, always found it too expensive plus I'm wary of disturbing too much muck in the system and blocking the FDV.

I bought the last remaining can that Malcolm Lockwood brought to Stratford last year. I ain't used it yet; it's sitting in the boot of the GSA up at Chevronics!

I used this in the G in 2002, but never reaped the benefits, because first the hydraulic pump hose developed a leak, then a rear cylinder failed and some issue with a front-rear hydraulic pipe blew the seal on the rear h/c... so the Hydraurincage soon disappeared, and for a while, the car had regularly self-changing LHM... to go with the self-changing oil! Expensive, but at least my oils were always fresh and clean!

All fixed now!

Failing that, those nice people at GSF Car Parts sell the genuine Total stuff under their ref N98106 for 5 litres. Euro Car Parts also sell it, Dunno their part number but Kitch will.

The only down-side is that GSF and Euro Car Parts will not post hydraulic fluids to you. You have to go to one of their outlets to collect, which is a bit of a pain if, like me, you find it difficult to get to one's nearest outlet (not very local) within opening hours...

Erm, since when? Never had a problem with them sending fluids, when they send the Big vat of LHM (25litre ish) they just stick a packing sticker on the side of it and throw it in the delivery truck!

Which reminds me, time to order some more!

Strewth! I paid £34 inc tax (£28 before tax) for five litres of Hydraurinsage from Speedsix Citroen near Wrexham but the results were almost instantaneous as usual. (I found it cheaper in France by the way!) As for the comment about shifting/stirring up muck methinks someone doesn't change LHM and clean filters enough - mine get done regularly and I reap the benefits - it's so simple and easy that I cannot imagine why people shy away from the job!

Silverfox?? I live in Acrefair, rarely get near speed six though, I paid around £28 for five litres of Hydraflush from installation technicians at Hengoed, then I suffered a rash of hydraulic problems and can safely say that since it was in there most components have been replaced

I like to keep the LHM and filters in my cars clean, if I were buying a BX one of the first things I would do would be to change the LHM.

Like this one I have here now of Tim's. Now has nice clean fluid and filters instead of the muck and crap that came out. I would recommend to Tim, if he still has the car next year, to change it again.

But when you've seen what comes out and whats lying in the bottom of the bowl, I just wouldn't want to risk stirring it up anywhere in the system.

If I were having hydraulic problems already, then I would certainly give it a go, but otherwise I'm happy to just keep the fuid clean.

My local Citroen dealer (one of those big multi-franchise thingies) is relatively cheap when it comes to my BX. Don't know why as they are expensive and incompetent with MG Rovers and every other manufacturer.

I went if for a qoute on a flush of Rene and was given a qoute of £100 & fluids which they charged the flushing fluid at the same as the LHM (the same as a local Citroen specialist). The guy was very knowledgeable and certainly gave an impression that he knew what he was talking about. Which was weird as when he was approached on a qoute for a timing belt change on a '97 Rover 825 V6, it went all to pot - £500!!!!!???!!!

And that was after they demolished the drivers door while giving it free winter check...

There, proof if we need it. The BX, Loves Roads, Hates Garages but Garages Love Them! LOL

A mate of mine works at GSF, in the new Canterbury branch. I can get hold of some and stick it in the post for anyone who wants it.

If you need it, Mark, I've got mates in Woking so I'm there every now and then.
