New Shell fuel.
New Shell fuel.
Hi y'all,
just been down to Cornwall and back in the trusty BX, 80/90 mph when i could and all it took was 26 litres of this new formula Shell diesel. Total mileage there was 291, and i did the same back. Never used such little fuel before, despite doing same trip for many years and at same speeds. Havnt done anything to the motor either.
I reccon shell have actually done what they say and have improved the stuff considerably.

Interesting, there are quite a few fancy versions of diesel/petrol out there with claims of approx 35 miles extra per tank. I've tried them & not really noticed very much at all, the high octane petrol in the mini seemed to make it slightly smoother & that was about it, no difference in mpg.
How much fuel would you have normally used doing the same trip in the past Andy?

That truly is amazing as that equates to 102mpg!Grenman wrote:Hi y'all,

I can see you have a diesel, & some before you have claimed 60+ on a NA on the standard derv, but even so.

I'd read that to mean 26 litres to do the 291 miles down there, and another 26 on the way back...
Funny you should mention that as I'm now remembering I filled up last weekend from a Shell station and thought nothing more of it. But I was thinking earlier toady that I seem to have used less fuel than normal this week, although can't put any definitive mpg figures to it. Anyway, it would be too early to attribute it to the fuel just yet, but I'm inclined to do an mpg check on the next tank.
I tend to get low to mid 40s on mountain roads, so I'm a long way from the 60mpg some people have seen!

No, i did the same back, 26 litres, same distance, same mileage same fuel.Way2go wrote:That truly is amazing as that equates to 102mpg!Grenman wrote:Hi y'all,

i usually use a minimum of half a tank of fuel, about 30 litres and as its a diesel, slow to get there but good to cruise, keep the pedal to the metal as they say. Been doing the same trip for years in the same motor and its a noticeably different result.
Shame i dont work for Shell, at least ide be paid to take time off, as a Self Employed guy, get bit twice, cost of time off plus no income during time off.

8 litres difference does seem rather a lot, how much more expensive is super fuel rather than standard per litre?

All i can say is that i have never used so little fuel to get to Looe before and i can assure you i dont spare the pedal. Didnt have the rods with me going down but they dont add up to the weight of a passenger. Well worth trying the stuff guys to try and get some comparisons, after all, its the same price.mat_fenwick wrote:It's the same stuff - they've just replaced the standard fuel with this supposedly more economical fuel. Obviously a ploy to get brand loyalty...but if it works then can't complain.

Re: New Shell fuel.
So not 26 litres as you wrote but 52 litres giving almost 51mpg then?Grenman wrote:No, i did the same back, 26 litres, same distance, same mileage same fuel.Way2go wrote:That truly is amazing as that equates to 102mpg!Grenman wrote:Hi y'all,

I've been using their petrol with the mileage ingredient but can't say I've noticed any difference so far. However a true check will have to wait until I replace the fuel lines and I tank up again.

Re: New Shell fuel.
You are right, i should have said 52 litres for the round trip of 482 miles which is very close to 51 mpg. It was just so noticeably different. I have been recording the mpg on all my motors[sad git] for years and this really showed as i dont spare the horses on longer trips. Just cant wait to get there. May be doing it again in a couple of weeks so ile keep my eyes on the consumption. Around here its just pootling around so the consumption wont be the same ime sure.Way2go wrote:So not 26 litres as you wrote but 52 litres giving almost 51mpg then?Grenman wrote:No, i did the same back, 26 litres, same distance, same mileage same fuel.Way2go wrote:

My local Shell station is close as is ASDA and one benefit of this proximity is that if Asda lower the price then the Shell station follows and matches it penny for penny!
So, already use Shell as I consider that its quality is likely better than ASDA and if the new fuel is better......................
