Removing estate rear side windows...

Post by KevR »

...without breaking them.

Any tips? I'm finally getting round to dismantling the spares car and I want to squirrel the vulnerable rear side windows away for the future, but they're bonded in...

Can you get a knife on the inside to slice the bonding? Trying to think how windscreen bods get 'screens out - wish I'd paid more attention now!

Cheese wire.

If you do a Google or eBay search for windscreen wire you'll be able to get a kit. Take it from me, a knife is no use on a bonded in window...

Thanks guys - I'll have a look on ebay, but I really need to get this dismantled in a hurry so may have to try and borrow/cobble together something locally.

I will. But these are the side windows I'm talking about...
Have just had a trawl on ebay, bought the tool plus a suction lifting pad for 14 quid posted to France - result. Interestingly, hundreds of the things on ebay uk, not a single one on ebay france.

Whilst fiddling about this afternoon, noticed the left rear window was loose anyway – the bonding agent's obviously gone hard. Wiggled it a bit and it came loose all the way round, except for the very top pointy bit, which held on just enough so when I moved it half a mm too far the bloody thing shattered into a gazillion pieces...
