BX hydraulics.

Post by tim »

Re my last post about the octopus, problem solved (see the relevant topic). Now I've got another problem! Er, two. First one is that I still have a leak somewhere but can't trace it. I may have found a solution, could you more experienced guys please comment? The trouble is with LHM is that it spreads and the cross member acts as a channel so it's difficult to see the actual leak. But I've had it running on the ramps and... nothing. But head down the road and when you stop - puddle. When I first had the lh front wheel off there was a small dia white pipe hanging loose which seemed to come off a blue triple block. I plugged it back in again; obviously the previous owner had been fiddling. While looking for the elusive leak just now I shone a torch in and there was a definite hint of fluid around the white pipe where it joins the triple block. Question - is this my leak, and under what circumstances would it start pissing fluid - using the brakes?? I thought these were just warning light sensors. i have thoroughly cleaned up the crossmember so I can't really think it's still runoff from the previous leak, not after a three mile run.
Next problem - the red light is flickering on and off. When you stamp hard on the brake pedal it will come up but a quick road test shows perfectly good braking and no sign of any warning light. Nor would my puddlette allow enough fluid loss to cause this. Also, setting the suspension on 'high' causes a lot of flashing and flickering before it settles down. Is the pump possibly stuffed? (a squeak has developed). Ideas please...next spanner session at the weekend, and a week before the MOT.

That sounds to be in the area of the security valve, which has a rubber leak-off pipe (which perishes) and joins to this white plastic pipe at that junction. This valve nestles on the subframe at its right extremity of the aperture through the wheel arch. Akward for access to replace this pipe but it does make a continual mess until the repair is done.
