REAR ARM BEARINGS
Had a quote from a well known and trusted Citroen Specialist to do the arm bearings on the TZI as they are getting tired and as its a keeper.....
£160 +VAT per side sounds a bit pricey to me what?? (that does include parts) but its a 100 miles each way to get to them. Ive had offers to do them for me from the forum but they never materialised so having to resort to pay retail money which is a bit of a shock!
Any thoughts.

What's the hourly rate round there? Say £30 per side for the bearing kit and you should be able to work out the time they are charging for. As a guide I'm doing mine at the moment and have spent a couple of hours a night over the past 2 nights on the job. I've taken both arms off and stripped one down in 3-4 hours, including waxoyling inside all the box sections at the rear of the car (might as well as I'm underneath!)
If all had gone well (one bolt was a PITA) I could have done it in 2, I'd guess on another 3 to fit the bearings and arms back on the car.
So if they are charging £40 per hour it sounds OK to me.

Thanks for the replies, I dont have the tools, time or skills to do it myself. As its 200 miles round trip I would leave it with him for the day and get him to both sides and probably change the spheres whilst hes at it.Oscar wrote:It's a couple of hours relatively straightforward work. £150 incl parts sounds right. It's worth doing them yourself as the set only costs £30. You do need a heavy vice and a large hammer though.
Cheers

Tim, for £320 +Vat, i'd buy the tools & find the time, especially if it was for a car that i don't use daily, i'd probably take ages doing them, but i'd deffo give it a go & ask plenty of questions/advice on the forum if i hit any snags etc....
Or, go round any scrappies that you know, look at xantias & if any have nice shiny bolts on the rear arms, they've been done recently & are exactly the same as bx arms, jobbed
I think that's what i'll do if i need to do any in the future.

No way I would even entertain doing it myself mate, not in a million years or I would end up with a car in bits on my drive for ages (sound familiar), RXBX knows of a guy local who is quite a bit cheaper so think I may take it there instead.
As its a keeper I want it doing properly but thanks for the advice.

Seriousley Tim, rear arm bearings are a piece of piss to do.
Vice? Never needed one yet. Axle stand does just fine.
No special tools required really, just a big hammer.
