MOT DAY GTi Auto

Post by Tim Leech »

Rear arm bearings need replacing

Fuel pipe leaking from tank area, usual pipe I expect

Smallish hole in boot floor where exhaust hanger has come off.

Exhaust rear box insecure (see above)

Washers in/op (blockage in wiper motor somewhere as the pump works fine)

ABS lamp on, could just be a bad connection

NSF Strut Return Split, easy job

Advisory on a brake flexi (not a fail)

Failed emissions as idle was too high but now seems OK

So what to do???

Option 1

Wait until the warmer weather and get it done if I can afford it, it does drive lovely and has cleaned up well, but the bonnet and roof arent good. Asides the boot floor its solid and the interiors MINT. All spheres have been re-gassed and everything works.

Option 2

Take some bits off, scrap it and get my money back

Option 3

Someone on here takes it on who is more mechanically adept than myself, anyone???

No nasty surprises Tim, TBH.

Don't do option 2, that'd be a shame.

Someone on here might want to take it on - it's a nice car essentially. My thinking is that you already have a 19 auto in white which is very clean. This wouldn't be that different to what you already have.

No point me taking it on, as I have plans in other directions, but I can vouch for the GTi auto as being a nice car to drive!

I doubt I could bring myself to break a BX Phil

It does drive very similar to the TZI so I doubt I would keep it anyway, rare car now too being a P1 GTI

It stands me at £125 so that's the going rate, please contact me if interested.

Honestly Tim,Im not thinking of it for me.I dont really like autos even though ive got one.She wont drive my Dads 14Re as its manual with no power steering but likes the size of the Bx .Plus as you pointed out ive got far too many commitments to fullfill at the moment and with my Dad been in hospital ,she,s been having to catch the bus or taxi to get out which is a bit of a bugger as they are right up on the moors so buses are twice a day.
Will let you know later on tonight if she,s interested.
Richard.

No worries I was joking anyway, I could do with at least one less CAR to worry about at the moment.

To be honest, theres nothing there which is exactly terminal is there? Why don\'t you have a pop at fixing it yourself? It hardly cost you anything so if it goes tits up you haven\'t lost much, and if you pull it off you\'ve gained alot more.

The arm bearings are a big pain Kitch, work wont do them and the only person to do them at a sensible price is chevronics which is 200 miles round trip even so its £200 plus to get them done, and that would involve trailering it all the way down there which is not viable, the other bits are fine.

If it sells then great if not I will take another look in 2011, I have some funds available then but thats earmarked for something.

Any takers?

really, they aint. There's a good guide on here, and the most specialist tool you need is a decent hammer.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Has some of this thread gone missing? I'm sure I read a post from Richard saying he was going to have it and a reply from Tim saying OK but he didn't want to hold onto it for months? Am I cracking up or have I started dreaming about replies? :? :? :?

If they've been neglected they definately are a pain as I'm finding out at the moment. Like a lot of jobs which are straightforward in theory, corrosion and wear in the components can increase the timescale from hours into days!
