tzd rear window wash switch
Hi All,
I have a tzd which has a weird quirk. The rear window wash/wipe switch won't stay on if i press it in the washer starts washing and the wiper will do one sweep. Should it be like this or should i be able to press the switch and the wiper goes on intermittent ?

I believe that only the estates were fitted with intermittent switches. The hatches have a simple wash wipe switch, a quick flick of which gives you a single wipe. When you hit 30mph the window stays dry anyway

As above, i think some members have made the effort to retrofit the intermitten system from the estate to the hatch models, seems quite a faff to me. You'll get used to it

rear window wash
Hi all,
I have the estate as well this is what got me wondering about it.
I think retro fitting would be a lot of hassle so I won't be doing that.
Cheers Kevino

Never realised that! Maybe that's one reason why when I converted the first estate to TD and used the interior from a saloon, I never did manage to get the rear wash/wipe working!

I've only ever had estates - pressing the switch halfway down operates the washer pump and sets the wiper running - releasing from that position stops the washer pump but the wiper continues for maybe 3 wipes then stops.
Pressing the switch fully to latch does not operate the washer pump at all and puts the wiper into intermittant mode - one wipe every 10 seconds or so and pressing the switch again to release the latch simply switches it off.
I would have thought that should be its normal operation - if it's different on hatchbacks maybe there's a common wiring problem that may have happened during build in the same way the drive to the heater blower full power relay got missed out.
If anyone local has a hatchback and wants to bring it round for me to investigate I'm happy to do that.

They genuinely are different - the owners manual even highlights the difference. I guess the extra complexity for the estate was deemed too costly to implement across the board, when the aerodynamics meant it wasn't that necessary.electrokid wrote:Pressing the switch fully to latch does not operate the washer pump at all and puts the wiper into intermittant mode - one wipe every 10 seconds or so and pressing the switch again to release the latch simply switches it off.
