I was getting 27 on my commute, which is the worst possible mix of stop start/just about warming through, but managed 34 with a mix of this commuting, fast motorway driving and a 56mph run.

I reckon I could get over 40 if I really tried on a run...

I used to run a Saab 9000 CS Turbo, and my dad's Abbott Racing tuned 9000 Aero was better on fuel

When I saw this thread I figured it would not be long before it became the "I am getting xxx MPG"

Anyways I am throwing my book out on calculating mpg or more correctly mpl or in my case kpl

The reason is because the Odometer/spedometer readings corrupt the data wih inaccuracy. By as much as 13% in the vehicle fleet I have  Even the two BXs are out by 10kph resulting in 1 km per 10 differance. All good stuff huh! :D

speed, distance, enviroment eg weather, terrain, traffic flow and now accuracy come into how close your going to be to those official fuel figures.

In this day of higher petrol prices (been saying that the last 20 years  ) we try to get best bang for buck. The BX still even though its an old car is able to achieve modesty for its size and weight.

Goverment Fuel Figures

BX19 petrol carb Auto Urban 29.7mpg 56mph 46.3mpg 75mph 37.2mpg

ironically the Manual is just 0.8mpg better at 56mph than the Auto box at 47.1mpg other than that they are a match.

My 19TRS averages 11.05kpl around 32mpg, in theory with it being a open road trip and no traffic maybe one or two cars/trucks to pass on the passing lane :) I should be getting better. However the terrain being undulating a a vertical height change of about 400metres in 20kms kind of has a big impact.

The 19TZS averages 9.2kpl around 26 mpg  which is kind disturbing even with the Aircon off but now I found out its got a 10kph speedometer differance to the TRS it dont feel so bad probably nearer to 29mpg? If it was not for the lack Aircon, leaky sunroof and difficult cold starting I would be using the TRS more.

Our Mitsi Galant rocks in with 11.12 kpl also runs on the cheapest grade of pertol sold here. But then since installing a GPS in the car discovered its speedo out by 7kph the opposite to the TZS so probably knock that down to 10.34kpl.

Cost wise for us the BX more expensive at the pump being on the higher octane rated fuels although that balances out somewhere along the line.

Brought the valver home to Lancaster from Soton last yr when i bought her off ebay. Mainly m-way and dual carriageway. Guestimate at 40 mpg. Mind you didn't take her much above 65 mph!
