speed humps
i cant understand the point of them.everytime i go over one i check the speedometer but ive yet to find one which made my car go any quicker.
i have discovered that a hump which knocks your teeth out in the aero at 20mph can be cleared at 35mph with five occupants with no bump at all in the citroen bx. my cx famille was not half so good at this trick as the bx.perhaps length was the problem?

I'm afraid the advantages of owning a good BX are once again being felt
I have had 12 or 13 of them over the years (the high turnover is no reflection upon their characteristics - more a combination of condition, grass being greener, size (the BX is smallish of course) and condition/economics) and although recently I've say, it's time to move on I know I will not.
There is no other car quite like a BX....

They are dangerous too when riding a motorbike, you can only go over them at walking pace so this in itself is dangerous as stop/starting with cars behind could catch someone out and plough straight through me.
The square one's I go around, but often the tarmac is different and oddly riddled with pot holes and bad repairs so I still have to slow to nothing, so I basically avoid them and take all the main roads instead.

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my BX. It tends to crash over some speed humps - the square ones particularly. 2CV beats it hands down.
CX is crap over them because it's too soft - as I discovered when tearing down a local hoon route in mine. BX speeds in a CX equals grounding out! BX is much better over humpback bridges too.

The speed bumps around my way are so poorly maintained it's more like driving over first world war trenches. Rip 'em out and put in speed cameras I say! They have no effect on white-van-man or boyracers anyway, and cause other drivers to concentrate on negotiating the vile things rather than on other road hazards such as human beings ('pedestrians'?)!

There's a little road between Lyne and Chertsey - 30 limit - which has 3 patches of rumble strips and when they were first fitted there was a sign each end of the road which said 'Caution - experimental rumble strips'. These signs remained in place for some 10 years - that's a long experiment
And a really dumb experiment too - I'm sure most people know that rumble strips are much more comfortable the faster you drive over them.
Of course the main reason for such 'traffic calming' measures is to protect the people who actually live along that road.
I've only had a problem on that road just the once - I was doing about 50 (at which point the rumble strips are hardly noticable) and I was being tailgated - I mean seriously tailgated - closer than it would be if we were linked by a towrope - and further acceleration made no difference.
Then suddenly he braked hard - then turned into HIS driveway
Dumb council... dumb resident too.
