Hello!

Post by Smiffy »

This is my first foray onto this site, so I go easy on me! I've been looking at a few of the threads on here, and hope I can get to know some more about BXs. From what I've seen, I'm in the right place!

I'm a lifelong Citroen owner... but of the 2CV persuasion! Hope this doesn't inspire too many boos and hisses. I've owned 2CVs since 1982, and think that they're the best cars ever made, though I realise that most people think the exact opposite. Having said this, I suspect that government-inspired "austerity chic" is currently making them fashionable. Prices are certainly robust on eBay at the moment!

My early love of 2CVs (and all things Citroen: I still lust after impossibly expensive DSs, IDs and even Light-15s) prompted my mum to buy a BX diesel back in the mid 80s, which I drove whenever possible (mostly when she was away and I wanted to convince ladies that I was a good catch, rather than a feckless layabout who was into hippy cars). In 89 she bought another BX, an utterly brilliant black diesel turbo, which stayed in the family until 97. We all loved that car. I particularly enjoyed the considerable kick that the turbo gave when revs went past a certain point.

I've been driving my current 2CV as my daily vehicle for the last couple of years, but a new project means that I'm going to have to buy a motorway car soon, so I figure a BX will be just what I need. I'll be looking to increase my mechanical knowledge, enjoy the "craic" and maybe even source a car while I'm here. My technical knowledge isn't great, so excuse me if I ask the odd dumb question!

Best wishes to you all.

:)

Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself, and welcome. There's quite a few other 2CV fans on here, so you're in good company! In fact I know of one who may be selling his BX....

Hello Smiffy. I'm wondering if I know you... (2CVGB?)

I quite agree though! Impossible to beat the 2CV - though the BX comes bloomin' close. I do indeed have a BX for sale - the stripes will come off... (link posted by Mat above).

Hmm (scratches chin)... Dollywobbler, will it cost less if you take the stripes off? I'm off to bed to cogitate a little. I'll pm you tomorrow when I'm a little less, err, tired.

Although I'm a member of 2CVGB, I'm more active on the I2CVF forum. Trying to visit 2CVGB more, but it's not quite as fun as I2CVF, imho, possibly as a result of the latter's website design.
I've never been into the social side of 2CVs particularly. I just think they're brilliant cars to drive, and are great fun to work on (and care for, even for someone like me who's not really a petrolhead). I'm always up for a yatter about 2CVs though... but realise that's maybe O/T on this forum, unless there's a special area allocated to snail-based banter!

Those of you who have met me in real life, will know that I don't look all that different to Dr Bunsen-Honeydew!
